Jamie McDonnell set for June homecoming

British, Commonwealth and European bantamweight champion, Jamie McDonnell, is set to return to the ring in front of his hometown fans at the Doncaster Dome on June 18th.

He has asked for a foreign opponent as he doesn't want to set foot back on the domestic merry-go-round just yet.

If he is granted this request, it could cause a bit of bother as purse bids have been set for a re-match with the man from whom he took the British and Commonwealth titles, Hackney's Ian Napa, with a stipulation that the fight takes place by the end of July.

"I want a foreign opponent for my next fight," said McDonnell, who is currently enjoying a break from training after being in the gym for several months.

What of a potential Yorkshire derby with Sheffield's Ross Burkinshaw which would certainly shift a few tickets?

"What's the point in that fight?  He has nothing for me - he would have everything to gain and nothing to lose.  Besides that, I'd smash him anyway."
