Jackie Turpin dies
Reports are emerging that Jackie Turpin, the last survivor of three famous boxing brothers from Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, died this morning at the age of 84.
Jackie (1925-2010) was the middle brother of three fighters - Dick (1920-1990) and, most famously, former world middleweight champion, Randolph (1928-1966).
Jackie was a former Midlands Area featherweight champ. Towards the end of his career he experienced one of his highlights - winning a six-rounder on points in 1953 at New York's Madison Square Gardens on the undercard of younger brother Randy's loss to Carl 'Bobo' Olsen for the vacant middleweight world title.
BoxRec's log for Jackie is 82-34-8 (though excellent journalist Bob Mee has him at 88-35-8).
