Ian Napa could come back bigger if not better
Ian Napa's trainer has revealed that the Clapton veteran might make a return to the ring as a super-bantamweight.
The UK's smallest pro at only 5'1", the former British fly and bantam boss was last seen retiring after eight rounds in a title defence against Darlington's Stuart Hall.
Napa claimed the Peterlee arena was too hot - something no one else in the world has said in reference to anywhere in County Durham.
Despite being so small he's been asked for ID at York Hall's bar, it is thought making the weight might have taken a bit out of him.
Mulling over a comeback for Napa, his trainer Brian Lawrence told the East London Advertiser, “It’s all down to him, he certainly has the ability. It’s about desire and whether he really wants to have another shot.
“He was one of the strongest in the bantamweight division and of course with Ian being only five foot one, he is used to fighting taller boxers, so again that won’t make too much difference.
“He is still training with me and if he wants it, I am hopeful we can get him on a show in November which Frank Maloney is promoting.”
A match between Dapa Napa and Jason '2 Smooth' Booth would be one for the purists.
