Hennessy Sports back in the promotional mix

According to the latest notices from the British Board of Control, Hennessy Sports will be back in the promotional mix after the summer break, headlining a show on Friday September 10th with John Murray defending his European lightweight title against Ukrainian Andrei Kudriavtsev.

Hennessy Sports' profile has suffered in 2010.  After rattling through plenty of shows in 2009, the Kent-based promoter has only staged the one show this year, the April Ally Pally demolition of Michael Sprott by Audley 'Yes He Can' Harrison - and this was really a Matchroom bill badged as a co-promotion as Hennessy's Darren Barker boxed on the undercard.

Some of Mick Hennessy's fighters were appearing on other promoters' shows and when one combined this with ITV's increasingly capricious dalliance with both boxing and Hennessy Sports, things didn't look good for the team.

Further, their leading light Carl Froch was left to box on arriviste station Primetime and then there was what seemed to be a rare falling out between fighter and promoter over the venue for Froch-Abraham.  The Cobra said he'd been assured he'd be boxing at home only to find out the rival camp were disputing that and the deal had been based on a handshake, leaving an awkward problem to resolve.

This has now been addressed and the pair will box on neutral ground on October 2nd in Monaco.

Let's hope predictions of Hennessy Sports' demise are very wide of the mark - it will be great to see them back staging shows next season, hopefully on a regular basis.
