Hatton Promotions launch social project

Hatton Promotions are launching a groundbreaking project helping youngsters who hope boxing can turn their lives around. Britain’s most ambitious promotional outfit will stage a show in association with Bridgewater Professional Boxing at Fit City, Salford on April 10.

Two of the budding boxers in the scheme Jamie Corkovic and Brett Murphy will make their professional debuts on the show. Murphy is a former soldier who served in Afghanistan, while Corkovic who had problems as a teenager never even boxed until last October. But the middleweight acquitted himself well in sparring with top fighters like Prizefighter winner Prince Arron and will be well supported by an army of fans.

Hatton Promotions CEO Gareth Williams: “There are several young boxers we are involved with who have had problems as youngsters.

“People are quick to knock boxing, but here is a golden opportunity for these lads to turn their lives around through the sport.

“Their desire to get away from a disadvantaged life is obvious from what I have seen and if we can help a bit then we are doing our job.”

Williams says that staging the non-televised show proves that Hatton Promotions are committed to grass roots boxing.

He added: “We will continue to stage boxing non-televised TV to keep our fighters busy.

“These shows will also help develop talent and see them emerge into television fighters the public will enjoy watching."

Top of the Salford bill is Manchester super-featherweight Anthony Crolla, who hopes to use the fight as a springboard to a return against new British champion Gary Sykes, who narrowly outpointed him last year.
