Froch back injury scuppers Abraham match
Who would be a fight fan? Perhaps the most anticipated match of the year involving a British fighter - Carl Froch v Arthur Abraham - scheduled to take place in Monaco in three weeks, has been cancelled with Froch citing a back injury.
Hennessy Sports say it happened on Friday and the Nottingham super-middleweight was advised by his physiotherapist today to rest for three weeks.
Showtime Sports, the American broadcaster who have tried to do something innovative and exciting with their Super Six tournament (Froch v Abraham was one semi-final) must wish they'd never bothered. Jermain Taylor dropped out, Mikkel Kessler is out with a long-term injury and now this.
And who would be a Froch fan? Several were out of pocket on travel and accommodation when the date for the Kessler fight was moved. Many more will be in exactly the same boat on this occasion.
Speaking personally, my flights are non-refundable so I might as well go to Monaco and hope Wetherspoon's have opened a branch there. I'll have to raise a ten euro glass and toast this god-foresaken, infuriating sport's catch-all caveat, 'That's boxing'.
