Ferguson might hang them up after defeat by BoxRec's Big Larry

Former Prizefighter heavyweight Dave Ferguson is thinking about quitting the sport after being blown away by BoxRec poster Big Larry Olubamiwo.

BoxRec forum members discussed the fight and thought the previously questionable stamina of both fighters might have a bearing on the contest. In reality, Big Larry despatched the Wallsend man in 112 seconds.

“I want to take a long rest and then see how I feel about the future,” Ferguson told the Newcastle Chronicle.

“I got caught but I was all right and was listening to the count. However, I mistimed it and that was that," claimed Ferguson.

"It happens in boxing. In an ideal world I would have preferred more time between fights. I had boxed three weeks previously in a six rounder and was then heading straight into a 10 rounder. Fighting three times in three months was too much.

“I should like to thank my dad for getting me this far. It was only his unstinting help when I was a kid and support all the way through that helped me achieve any standard.”
