Exclusive - WBA confirms that Amir Khan v Marcos Maidana is on

The World Boxing Association has confirmed that an agreement has been reached for their light-welterweight champion Amir Khan to defend against interim champion, Marcos Maidana.

The bout will apparently be Khan's next match with no step aside option and is likely to take place in April.

Purse bids were due for the match yesteday but they were suspended after an agreement between the parties which reached - though even the WBA refer to it as 'tentative'.

The Board's English isn't great but it's better than my Spanish.  Regardless, the message is clear:

"A tentative agreement was reached between the parties and it was not necessary the purse bid for the championship bout between united kingdom’s Amir Khan and interim champion, the Argentinean Marcos Maidana, they came in to terms.

"The participants decided that the match to determine the absolute champion will be done approximately end of March or beginning of April, it simply needs a site to be defined. However they are talking some cities have been mentioned as Manchester, England and Las Vegas as possible scenarios for the bout."

I wrote last night that an April 17th match in Las Vegas on the undercard of Bernard Hopkins v Roy Jones II had been proposed.
