Exclusive - Officials set for Fury-McDermott rematch

The British Boxing Board of Control has decided upon which officials will preside over next Friday’s heavyweight rematch between Tyson Fury and John McDermott. Unsurprisingly, Terry O’Connor, who controversially made Fury a 98-92 points winner when acting as the sole arbiter when the pair met last September, takes no part.

The English title rematch at the Brentwood Centre in Essex will be refereed by Dave Parris but all eyes are likely to be on the three ringside judges: Richie Davies, Howard Foster and Victor Loughlin.

McDermott‘s promoter, Frank Maloney, said earlier today: “I have no problem with whoever is appointed an official. I will only object if Terry O’Connor who was the referee in the first fight, is given a role.”

“John is the unluckiest man in the heavyweight division and one of the best talents when he believes in himself. He has gone the distance with Danny Williams twice and was robbed in both fights .”

“He was definitely robbed in the first Fury fight. It was a disgrace to British boxing and hopefully that will be corrected when John gets the chance to prove it,” added Maloney.
