East Midlands rather than Far East for Munroe?

Rendall Munroe might not have to travel to his opponent's Japanese backyard after all when the binman challenges for the WBC super-bantamweight title.

The Leicester boxer's manager Mike Shinfield says the team behind champion Toshiaki Nishioka are "very interested" in a renewed offer from promoter Frank Maloney to stage the contest on British soil.

Shinfield said: "This time last week my gut feeling was that Rendall would have to go to Japan – but I'm not so sure now," the trainer told the Leicester Mercury.

"Nishioka's people are very interested in the bigger offer we have made and the dialogue will continue."

Maloney Promotions are looking at a September challenge for Munroe.
