Chris Edwards to defend Commonwealth title against Ashley Sexton

It will be an intriguing match-up between experience and youth when Chris Edwards defends his Commonwealth flyweight title against hard-punching challenger Ashley Sexton on 13 November.

23 year-old Sexton is an early favourite with the bookies after a year which has seen him rise to prominence with a chilling first round knockout of Usman Ahmed and a brave challenge for Shinny Bayaar's British title.

Edwards, 34, will be unfazed by the odds, an opponent he has beaten many times on the way to winning British titles at two different weights. He will be hoping his high tempo fighting style can overwhelm a fighter who's only been beyond six rounds on one occasion.

Both boxers have had it tough in their most recent contests. 'Flash' Ashley Sexton proved his mettle after coming on strong in the final rounds of his drawn contest with Bayaar whilst Edwards won a close 12 round decision against tough Namibian Abmerk Shindjuu – throwing 1365 punches in the process.

Edwards' record currently consists of a misleading 14 wins, 14 losses and three draws whilst Sexton remains unbeaten with nine wins and one draw – and a much higher knockout percentage.

The fight will take place at Manchester's MEN Arena on the undercard of David Haye's WBA title defence against Audley Harrison.
