Carslaw gets his first title with some ease
Kris Carslaw of Paisley continued his unbeaten run and indeed extended it to 12 bouts when he won the vacant British Masters light-middleweight strap in the Scotstoun Sports Campus in Glasgow with a stoppage in the third round against Terry Carruthers of Birmingham.
The Brummie went down for a standing count from Victor Loughlin in the third, but Carslaw sensing blood went straight for Carruthers and referee Loughlin had no hesitation in calling it off to save the brave visitor from excessive punishment.
The undercard of this Chris Gilmour promotion was ably supported with:
Ciaran Duffy of Glasgow winning on points against perennial warhorse Billy Smith. It has to be said though that Smith deserved a share of the decision as he had Duffy down in the fifth.
Eddie Doyle of Glenboig won a unanimous points shut-out against Matt Seawright over eight two-minute rounds in a bout that was frankly somewhat messy with too much holding from both boxers. Nonetheless Doyle remains undefeated.
Paul McElhinney of Newlands won his local derby against Ryan McNicol of Govanhill with a bad cut in the sixth round on McNicol’s eye. The bout had been pretty close up till that point and it looks to be ready made for a rematch.
Richard Barclay of Milngavie had a fairly straightforward points win over Jatinder Johal of Derby.
John Downie of Newarthill and the ubiquitous Sid Razak of Birmingham boxed a six-rounder with Downie picking up the decision to maintain his unbeaten run.
Anstruther’s David Cowan edged out Wolverhampton’s Delroy Spencer with Kenny Pringle giving the Fifer the nod on points.
Chris “The Flash” Evangelou of Enfield certainly didn’t live up to his nick-name with a narrow points win over perennial Polish teacher-cum-boxer Arek Malek. Malek is a promoter’s dream, he always gives value for money and doesn’t bring an army of assistants to add to the cost.
