Burns can improve on the "Real McCoy"

Renowned Scottish trainer Billy Nelson is confident that Ricky Burns can eclipse even Scott "The Real McCoy" Harrison. Nelson worked alongside Scott Harrison during his peak period as WBO featherweight champion , yet he believes that Ricky Burns has the potential to surpass Scotland's most successful (recently) pugilist.

Billy has been quoted as saying; "Ricky's got so much talent it's unbelievable. Harrison was a great fighter but from what I've seen of Ricky, he can be better.

"We've just had some sparring in Manchester and Ricky was brilliant. He's in the best shape of his career and I'm so excited about the Martinez fight.

"Ricky has taken a while to find his stride as a professional, but in the last 18 months he has improved every day in the gym. Obviously Harrison was the most successful Scottish boxer of recent years, and Ricky will have to go some to match his achievements. But I really believe he has what it takes to win this fight against Martinez and then defend his belt against anyone."

High praise indeed from a man who knows what is needed to succeed at the top of, what is arguably the hardest sport of all.

The Coatbridge boxer is deep in preparation with Nelson for his forthcoming world title challenge with Roman Martinez of Puerto Rico in the Kelvin Hall on September the 4th.
