British champ Hall on Haye card - but still can't find a sponsor

Darlington's first ever British boxing champion Stuey Hall will be in the limelight tonight, boxing on the undercard of Haye v Harrison in Manchester.  But despite being on one of the biggest shows of the year, the bantamweight still can't find a sponsor.

“I’m still looking for a sponsor," Hall (9-0-1) told the Newcastle Journal. "I drive to Leeds to train, and pay for it out of my own pocket, so to be on a big show like this should help.

“It is brilliant. Even the weigh-in was out of this world. There were 2,000 people there watching.

“My first fight was in front of 400 people in North Road in Darlington (two years ago). It is a bit of a difference with 20,000 people in. I have to ignore that.

“Boxing on the undercard you do not get that much attention.

“It is still good to be boxing in front of small crowds in the North East, or in front of 20,000 people in Manchester. They are totally different, however I enjoy them both.

“A good performance tonight will put me right on the map. There is not really that much media attention even though I am the British champion.

“I would hope I have gained a bit of respect since I won the title, but all I am worried about is winning the Lonsdale belt outright.

“He (opponent Gary Davies) is just a come-forward fighter. He has stopped a few people so he can punch, but I think I am going to walk through it. I will just take him apart.

“I would like to fight Jamie McDonnell for the European title next, but if he wins his next fight he has nine months off.

“I don’t think he will want to fight me, so I might have to do another defence.

“I am going to be fighting at about half six, seven o’clock, and they will show it pre-recorded later.”
