The BoxRec summer interviews - Nicki Smedley

Next in our summer series of interviews with pro boxers who post on BoxRec's British is Sheffield stylist Nicki 'Nightmare' Smedley.

Well, I assumed he posted on BoxRec and I'm sure he has offered his views once upon a time.  But 'Steelcity 65' is owned by his dad and trainer, Chris.  He's a 'character' is Smedley snr and let's just say Chris talks enough for the pair of them.

Nicki is 12-0 (3) and learning his trade on a diet of journeymen.  He had his first fight in more than two years back in April after having time out of the ring due to a variety of circumstances. The one which affected his focus most was the loss of who his dad calls 'the person closest to him in the world', his grandmother.

What has been the highlight of your career this season?

Getting back to fighting after 18 months out.

Any low points?

Losing my gran.

What do you realistically aim to achieve in the next year?

I want to start winning titles.

Who would you most like to fight next season and why?

Anyone who holds a good title - so I can take it!

Is there anything you plan to focus on in training after the summer?

Just train...that's all you can focus on.

Who do you view (other than yourself!) as the best British boxer in your division?

Frankie Gavin. He's got great skill and was a world amateur champion.

What rule change(s), if any, would you like the BBBofC to introduce?

Cheaper fees for boxers.

Are you a fan of Prizefighter or not? Either way, how would you improve it?

Yes. It's good enough as it is.

Why do you post on the BoxRec forum?

I don't - but my dad and gym mates do.

If you could name one BoxRec poster you would like to share a ring with, who would it be and why?

Spud. I did him on a plane to Vegas...next, the ring!
