The BoxRec summer interviews - Larry Olubamiwo
The next professional boxer and poster on BoxRec's British forum to 'speak upon it' is heavyweight prospect Larry Olubamiwo. The 31-year-old London-based scrapper, who posts under his nickname of 'War Machine', has a record of 9-1 with his only defeat coming in a lacklustre performance against Norwegian journeyman Daniel 'Shrek' Peret.
Body beautiful Olubamiwo has recently spent some time under the tutelage of Freddie Roach at the Wild Card gym in Los Angeles.
Larry (whose real first name is actually Lanre) is a particular favourite amongst BoxRec posters for his respectful attitude and his humble tendency to be self-critical.
What has been the highlight of your career this season?
The highlights of my career this season are winning the Southern area title and beating Dave Ferguson in an English title eliminator.
Any low points?
Not getting as many fights as I wanted.
What do you realistically aim to achieve in the next year?
I want the British and Commonwealth titles in the next year, God willing.
Who would you most like to fight next season and why?
I don't have anyone in mind, whoever they put in front of me.
Is there anything you plan to focus on in training after the summer?
I plan to focus on my technical skills and my conditioning.
Who do you view (other than yourself!) as the best British boxer in your division?
Obviously David Haye.
Outside of your division, name one current British boxer you hold in high regard and explain why you rate them.
I have to name two, Tony Bellew and Terry Dunstan. Both because they are very dedicated and talented and such nice guys and have both helped me big time.
What rule change(s), if any, would you like the BBBofC to introduce?
Three judges for regional title fights.
Are you a fan of Prizefighter or not? Either way, how would you improve it?
Not really, I would only consider it for the money. It doesn't reflect a true fight as we have seen and Freddie Roach said the same thing to me.
Why do you post on the BoxRec forum?
I post because I like to interact with the fans and get their opinions and criticisms and catch up on boxing headlines and schedules.
If you could name one BoxRec poster you would like to share a ring with, who would it be and why?
None.
