The BoxRec summer interviews - Carl Dilks

The next BoxRec poster to go under the spotlight is 26-year-old Scouse super-middleweight, Carl 'Dynamite' Dilks (14-2).  This interview was conducted before the news was revealed that Dilks would be facing current Olympic champion James DeGale in an eliminator for the British title in Birmingham on September 18th.

What has been the highlight of your career this season?

I would say the highlight of this season for me would be boxing for the Commonwealth title even though I narrowly lost the fight (to Charles Adamu by disputed points) I enjoyed it and i was surprised how easy I handled doing the twelve rounds.

Any low points?

My low points for this year would be not winning the Commonwealth title and not being as active as I would like even though I know my manager Steve Wood has worked really hard to get me fights and is probably sick and tired of hearing my voice on the phone stalking him, ha ha!

What do you realistically aim to achieve in the next year?

Next year I would love to fight for any of our domestic titles, more so the British - would love to win that outright.

Who would you most like to fight next season and why?

Next season I would love to fight any of the domestic champions. I want big fights and hopfully next year I will be ranked high enough to get them.

Is there anything you plan to focus on in training after the summer?

I plan to work on strength and explosive power work this summer so I can live up to my dynamite nickname, ha ha!

Outside of your division, name one current British boxer you hold in high regard and explain why you rate them.

The domestic fighter I like is Kevin Mitchell, just because he has impressed me with his all round boxing ability.

What rule change(s), if any, would you like the BBBofC to introduce?

Just the one over the cuts.

Are you a fan of Prizefighter or not? Either way, how would you improve it?

I am a fan of Prizefighter but i think it is getting alittle old if they could bring in over seas competition would spice things up.

Why do you post on the BoxRec forum?

I  post here just because I'm a bit of a boxing geek and nosey. I want to know what's happening in the sport. Plus, I like to know if I'm getting any stick which I do from time to time but not all the time - I always get positive feedback too.

If you could name one BoxRec poster you would like to share a ring with, who would it be and why?

Ha ha! I would have to say righthook for the amount of crap he has given me!  Ha ha -  only joking it's all taken on the chin. I don't mind people talking their mind, it lets you know where you stand with them.
