BoxRec News - Our wish list for 2010
Bored, aren't you? I know we are. 15th January is when the British season re-commences with a tasty looking Hatton Promotions' bill in Altrincham. Until then we're forced to spend our time twiddling our thumbs and wishing our lives away. Well, might as well try and be constructive about it. The BoxRec News staff selflessly offer their boxing hopes for 2010.
Adam Johnston - My wish for Boxing in 2010 is not a fight as money will usually make the big fights happen. My wish is that there will be three judges at all domestic title fights to stop controversy for refs who already have a hard job. And that video replays are used when there is a low blow/butt because if your using the time to take them to a doctor or give them extra minutes for respite (in the case of low blows) why not check a replay in that time as well?
Eric Armit - David Haye - or anyone - to bring and end to the dominance of the heavyweights by the Klitschko brothers, Mayweather and Pacquiao to fight each other, Carl Froch to win the Super Six and boxing back on terrestrial TV.
Robin Jones - David Haye survives Ruiz setting up a 2010 superfight with one of the Klitschko brothers.
Martin Dobbing - I would love to see Ricky Hatton face Marquez at Eastlands. I have been a huge fan of Ricky ever since his debut, and it would be great for him to have a big send off against a fighter of Marquez's class. He may have lost convincingly to Pacman, but when you look at what Paulie has done to Juan Diaz, well, it kind of puts Ricky's win into perspective doesn't it? It would be a great fight!
Greg Paterson - I would like for judging to be finally taken seriously and for commissions to monitor the quality of judging to help eliminate poor decisions.
Declan Taylor - Can't imagine I'll be the only one saying this but the stand out dream for 2010 has to be Pacquiao-Mayweather. It's a fight that simply has to happen and I'm hoping it will in the next 12 months. David Haye successfully defending against a Klitschko is not far down the wish list but another knock-out for Pacman sits pretty at the top.
Martin Williams - For Pacquiao and Mayweather to meet, Froch to continue his unbeaten run and for someone (anyone) to take boxing by the scruff of the neck, give it a good shake and then show us it regularly on TV...I'll even pay!
Danny Doyle - Pacquiao vs Mayweather! I have no doubt it will certainly be the biggest in terms of revenue generated, purses for the fighters, etc.
No current fight out there comapres to Mayweather-Pacquiao. It's not just a fight betwen two great fighters, its an extravaganza, an event of massive magnitude. Whoever would emerge victorious, would no doubt prove they are the greatest fighter of their generation and would have a place among boxing immortals.
If it does not happen, it will be one of the biggest let downs the sport has ever been hit with, perhaps THE biggest! They say "Money talks", so lets all hope that for this fight, money does talk. Let's get it on!
Matthew Hoskins - My 2010 wish list would be to see Rendall Munroe to fight for a world title and for Jason Booth to pick up his vacated European title. I think both will be achieved with in the next 12 months. A fight I hope will happen but don’t think it will would be Matthew Macklin against Darren Barker.
Steve Wellings - My boxing wishlist is fairly simple. I am itching for Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao because it's the superfight that everyone wants to see and the fans deserve. If it doesn't happen then Pacquiao-Valero would be fairly tasty.
On the domestic scene I'm not too fussy. Cleverly-Bellew is building into a nice fight; Kell Brook against Michael Jennings; John Simpson versus Martin Lindsay.
Closer to home I would like to see the best Irish middleweights face one another. There is talk of a middleweight tournament involving the cream: Duddy, Moore, Lee, Macklin etc. Sinclair can get into the mix too. Good times!
Paul Concannon - I wish for the return of a fit and healthy Carl Johanneson!
Paul Foley - My wish for 2010 and onwards is for a wider and higher quality of boxing coverage. It's high time Britian had a regular HBO or Showtime weekly broadcast on BBC or one of the other four mainstream free channels which gives us fight fans a chance to view some of the worlds best.
At present we are limited to British, Commonwealth and European Friday night fights.
Other than that Sky are only intersted in the likes of Pacquiao, Mayweather or any one who convinces the paying public to pay the price for a one off event night.
There are numerous boxers who I hear much about yet see little or none of other than through the great medium of You Tube.
Whatever it takes TV companies and promoters need to give us fans and their fighters a welcome return to the days of seeing the pound for pound greats without having to part with our pounds! Boxing deserves better!
David Statham - Aside from the fights on the world scene, a clash between Michael Jennings and Kell Brook in 2010 would be fantastic. Jennings has been in a 'world' title fight and Brook surely will be if he continues to do as he is. It's kind of the same as the Jamie Moore vs Ryan Rhodes situation.
That fight won the Boxrec News' 2009 British Fight of the Year award. So Jennings vs Brook could be a cracker. It was supposed to happen last year. It didn't. I believe Brook now has a fight in February. Maybe this could happen later in the year.
James Howard - This year I would like to see the television companies take the bull by the horns and begin to force an improvement to the standard of the shows broadcast and more specifically the competitiveness of the undercard. ITV's ratings success with Darren Barker proves that they should stay involved, Sky Sports need to review their policies which have resulted in some woeful shows this year while the BBC need to step back in (whatever happened to BN's campaign?). I'd happily settle for a huge increase in online ppv coverage with good quality coverage available at a reasonable price with the click of a button, or a Setanta clone rising from the ashes. Any remaining goodwill I am afforded will be channelled into making the Manny-Mayweather and Haye-Klitschko bouts happen.
John Hannen - My boxing wish list for 2010 is very unrealistic but, hey, we gotta' dream right? I'd like to see boxing regularly back on terrestrial TV and our top boxers, and 'up and comers' becoming household names - as in yesteryear.
I'd also like to see my two nephews do well in the ABAs this year!
Kevin Roberts - Very simple - my biggest boxing wish for 2010 is for David Haye to KO either one of Klitschkos.
