Having lost a disputed majority verdict in his home country, 26-year-old Kazak Shumenov wins WBA title in only tenth fight, with another hotly disputed decision, over champion Campillo, a 31-year-old Spanish southpaw making his second defence. Shumenov aggression against Campillo skill. Campillo cut in fifth but has Shumenov hurt a few times and on the verge in ninth only for challenger to look stronger at the finish. Campillo unlucky as even Shumenov looked surprised at the decision. Scores show contrast 117-111, 111-117, 115-113. Campillo management demanding a return and also an investigation of 117-111 score for Shumenov. Class and youth of Lara too much for game Brewer, 39. Brewer cut by clash of heads in sixth. Nine wins in a row for Brinkley since 2007 loss to Robin Reid. Brinkley’s trainer, Peter Manfredo Snr, thrown out of corner for pushing Stevens at end of fifth round. An easy defence for Sylvester as he retains his IBF title against game late sub Lyell. Sylvester takes first two rounds. Lyell has his moments from third to sixth, but from start of seventh he starts to tire. Sylvester dominates and forces stoppage as Lyell’s trainer, Jack Loew, who also trains Kelly Pavlik, threw in the towel. Two left hooks from WBC No 3 Murat enough to force stoppage against Guyana in Corbin. “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius floors former WBO champ Brewster with a heavy right in second. Turns it on again in eighth and batters Brewster for big stoppage win. Helenius good right hand puncher, but still a lot of amateur in his style. Brewster just going through the motions. In only his fifth fight Bulgarian Pulev impressive again as he stops veteran, and former WBA title challenger, Skelton in four rounds. Three losses inside the distance in a row for oldie Skelton.
