The legendary Eric Armit still manages to file his global boxing digest even though he's on his travels.

July 21

Perth, Australia: Cruiser: Danny Green (30-3) W KO 1 Paul Briggs. Heavy: Shane Cameron (25-2) W PTS 10 Daniel Ammann (19-4-1). Light: William Kickett (17-2) W PTS 6 Jack Asis (21-15-4). Cruiser: Brad Pitt (5-0) W KO 3 Oscar Siale (12-6).Total disgrace as Briggs falls over after just 29 seconds from what seemed a light punch. Green, crowd and TV people and IBO all very upset. Second defence of his IBO title for 37-year-old “Green Machine”. Briggs, 34, a former two-time WBC light heavy title challenger had been inactive since February 2007 and failed to make the agreed weight. Rubbish was thrown at Briggs in the ring and on his way back to the dressing room, and the local Board are to investigate the fight, with some bookies refusing to pay out on bets.

New Zealander Cameron, 32, with a view to moving down to challenge Green comes at his lightest weigh in his career, but still too big and strong for southpaw former Aussie champ and takes unanimous decision,Much needed win for young Kickett as he wins every round against experienced Filipino with all three judges seeing it 60-54. Pitt, 28, a Commonwealth gold medal winner in 2006, again shows his power and potential as he kayos Siale in third. Just 20 days previously Siale had gone twelve rounds in losing a majority decision to Dominic Vea for the vacant Commonwealth title.

July 22

Los Angeles, USA: Super Bantam: Nestor Rocha (22-2) W KO 2 Benji Garcia (14-16-3). Super Feather: Gary Russell Jr (11-0) W TKO 1 Mauricio Pastrana (35-15-2).In his first fight since disastrous one round loss to Hozumi Hasegawa in a challenge for the WBC bantam title in July 2009, not a noted puncher, Rocha takes out normally durable Garcia with a body punch in second round. Now eight by KO/TKO for Olympian Russell, 22, as it is all over in just 106 seconds. Pastrana not down but hurt against the ropes and referee calls it off after giving the Colombian a standing count. Stoppage may have been a bit premature but it is time someone saved the washed-up 37-year-old, Pastrana, eight losses in his last nine fights, from himself.

Sydney, Australia: Light: Lenny Zappavigna (24-0) W KO 2 Billy Sumba (18-2-1). Heavy: Adam Forsyth (8-0) W KO 1 Bob Gasio (11-15). IBO champion Zappavigna has an easy night as he hurts Indonesian in first and puts him out in round two. A bit of reality seeping into Sumba's inflated record. He won his first 17, but the move up in opposition has found him out. Forsyth a real prospect. Floors Samoan veteran Gasio three times for automatic stoppage. Forsyth, 29, a multi national champion as an amateur and Olympic quarter finalist in 2004 lost to David Price in the Liverpool Multi-Nations tournament in 2005.

Jurmala, Latvia: Denis Shafikov (24-0) W TKO 6 Leo Resendiz (23-25).Twenty-five-year-old Russian southpaw wears down oldie Resendiz, 33, floors him in sixth and Mexican does not come out for seventh.

July 23

Leemore, USA: Light Heavy: Beibut Shumenov (10-1) W PTS 12 Vicheslav Uzelkov(22-1). Light Heavy: Gayrat Ahmedov ( 15-0-1) W KO 1 Dallas Vargas (22-5). Super Bantam: Rico Ramos (17-0) W PTS 8 Cuauhtemoc Vargas (15-4-1). Light Middle: Ravshan Hudaynazarov (13-0) W TKO 5 Pavel Miranda (16-6-1). After some early excitement, this turned out to be a one-sided first defence of his WBA title for Shumenov. Ukrainian Uzelkov had the champion from Kazakhstan down in the first from a left hook, but Shumenov, 26, returned the compliment by flooring Uzelkov, 31, at the end of the third. From then Shumenov was in the groove and won every round to take a wide unanimous decision on scores of 117-109 and 118-110 twice.

Mild upset as Uzbek Ahmedov puts away former top amateur Vargas with a body punch at the end of the first round. Ten by KO/TKO for Ahmedov, 31, but third loss by KO/TKO in his last four outings for 33-year-old Vargas. Talented Ramos, 23, retains NABO Youth title with routine win over once promising Mexican Vargas (he was undefeated in his first 15 fights). Unanimous verdict 79-73 and 80-72 twice. Hudaynazarov, 26, makes it a good night for Uzbekistan as he dismantles game Mexican Miranda who retires at the end of fifth. Eleven by KO/TKO for Uzbek prospect, but only one win in his last seven for Miranda.

Lomas de Zamora, Argentina: Heavy: Gonzalo Basile (47-4,1ND) W PTS 10 Daniel Bispo (22-14). Light Middle: Rodolfo Martinez (37-4-1,1ND) W TKO 8 Oscar Fuchs ( 10-13). Poor fight as 36-year-old “El Patio” tries to make a fight of it, but Brazilian southpaw Bispo only set on survival so ten dull rounds. Scores 100-94, 98-96.5 and 97-93 for Basile. Martinez, in his first fight since losing to Jan Zaveck for the IBF welter title in April, given a good argument by Fuchs. A borderline blow puts Fuchs down in sixth and his trainer is banished from the corner after remonstrating with the referee. Fuchs fights back in seventh but floored again in eighth and corner throws in the towel.

Mexico City, Mexico: Bantam: Alejandro Hernandez (24-7-2) W TKO 7 Jesus Ceja (13-7-1). No problems for “The Little Clown” as “Payasito” Hernandez, 24, gradually broke down modest Ceja and forced the stoppage in round seven. Hernandez lost to Omar Narvaez for the WBO fly title in 2008 and drew with Marvin Sonsona for the WBO super fly title in November last year. Loss No 6 in his last 8 fights for Ceja.

Temecula, USA: Light Middle: Craig McEwan (19-0) W PTS 10 Danny Perez (34-8). Welter: Keith Thurman (13-0) W KO 2 Stalinn Lopez (7-1). Edinburgh southpaw McEwan boxes his way to majority verdict over tough veteran Perez, 33, who has been in with the best, but never been stopped. McEwan too fast and slick but Perez does all of the pressing. McEwan, 28, on the floor in last, but ruled a slip so no count. One judge had it 95-95, but the other two had McEwan winning comfortably on scores of 97-93. Perez lost on points to Antonio margarita for the WBO welter title in 2002. Lanky Thurman, 21, wins battle of the unbeatens as he kayos Cuban Stalinn in round two.

Royal Oak, USA: Super Middle: Daryl Cunningham (20-2) W KO 3 Anton Echols (32-14-4).Welter: Vernon Paris (22-0) W PTS 8 Courtney Burton (22-7,1ND). Big win for Cunningham. No clue of things to come in first two rounds, but in the third a big right from southpaw Cunningham unhinges veteran Echols who is given a standing count. Ending only delayed as Cunningham finishes Echols in a follow-up attack and scores kayo. Only one win in his last 13 for 38-year-old Echols, or should I say the shadow of the world class fighter Echols once was. Another uneven performance from Paris who seems to have a serious stamina problem. On top early he has experienced Burton,33, in trouble in fourth but blows himself out trying for the finish. Burton takes over and in rough and tumble affair looks unlucky to lose. Scores 77-75, 77-76 and a too wide 78-74.

July 24

Los Mochis, Mexico: Light Fly: Ramon Garcia(13-1-1) W PTS 12 Johnriel Casimero (14-1) Super Fly: Rodrigo Guerrero (14-2-1) W PTS 12 Federico Catubay (25-17-3). Welter: Omar Chavez (23-0-1) W KO 2 Miguel Angel Galindo (16-25-2). Super Feather: Jorge Lacierva (36-7-6) W KO 2 Abel Berrelle (20-16-2). The Garcia family have a “world” champion again. Just four months after Raul lost his IBF strawweight title, brother Ramon collected the WBO interim light fly title with a majority verdict over Filipino youngster Casimero. The better boxing of the 20-year-old Filipino saw him take the early rounds as Garcia, 27, struggled to get into the fight. He started to close the distance and had more success from the fifth, but it could have gone either way as the scores show. Garcia takes it 115-113, 115-113, 113-115 and makes it ten wins in a row, but Casimero deserves a return.

Businessman Chavez does the business in poor match he kayos Galindo in second to go to 16 by KO/TKO, but he can't keep fighting opponents like this. Unanimous points win for Guerrero in IBF eliminator over Filipino. Scores 115-113, 116-112 & 117-111. Guerrero has now won eleven of his last twelve, losing only to Vic Darchinyan for the WBA/WBC super fly title in his last fight in March. Catubay lost an IBF eliminator to Juan Alberto Rosas, but goes stright back into another. Hidden down the card, veteran Lacierva much too good for modest Berrelle, “Baby Face” lost to Mark Johnson for the IBF super fly title in 1999 and to Celestino Caballero for the WBA super bantam crown in 2007. One win in his last ten tells you about Berrelle's form.

Campeche, Mexico: Feather: Jhonny Gonzalez (45-7) W TKO 2 Aristedes Perez (17-3-1). Super Fly: Oscar Ibarra (23-4) W TKO 6 Carlos Melo (19-11-1). Colombian Perez, 29, tried to take the fight to Gonzalez, 28, which was suicide. A left puts Perez down and he is driven in to the ropes and shipping some heavy punishment when the referee stops it. That's 38 by KO/TKO as Gonzalez retains WBC Continental Americas title. Perez previous two losses to Humberto Soto for WBC super feather title and on cuts against Vincent Escobedo. Ibarra, wins vacant WBC Silver Belt, but Panamanian Melo gets in a few licks of his own in third and fifth rounds before a concerted attack from Ibarra overpowers him. Now 15 by KO/TKO and the last eight in a row for Ibarra 24, as he wins vacant WBC Silver Belt. Melo one win in his last seven, but really a light fly at best, at which weight he lost to Edgar Sosa for the WBC title in June 2009.

St. Louis, USA: Light Middle: Deandre Latimore (20-3) W TKO 3 Darien Ford. Heavy: Chauncy Welliver (43-5-5) W PTS 12 Joell Godfrey. In his first fight since losing to Sechew Powell in March, Latimore given a sure win as veteran loser Ford came in as a late substitute. Latimore had Ford down three times in second and fight was stopped after knockdown early in third. The 24-year-old, fighting in his hometown, lost to Cory Spinks for the IBF title April 2009.Welliver, 27, who has dual New Zealand and American nationality, retained the WBC Continental Americas title but had to go the distance for a unanimous points win against much less experienced Godfrey. No knockdowns, but Godfrey just could not get untracked against Welliver’s high glove defence. Welliver wins on scores of 115-113 and 117-111 twice. Only one loss in last 26 for Welliver, and that was to Odlanier Solis, but the rest of the opposition has been ordinary-at best.

Tijuana, Mexico: Light Welter: Antonio Lozada (23-0) W TKO 4 Hugo Hernandez (11-2-1). Bantam: David de la Mora (21-0) W PTS 12 Elvis Garcia (9-7-3). Super Feather: Marvin Quintero (20-2) W KO 5 Jean Javier Sotelo (23-9-2). Light: Antonio Cervantes (9-5-2) W TKO 10 Alain Hernandez (18-8-2). Light Welter: Juan Pablo Lopez (17-0) W TKO 1 Carlos Luziania. Punching power and hand speed were the factors which gave Lozada win No 20 by KO/TKO in this battle of 5'10” tall light welters. Hernandez shook Lozada with a right in the second, but “Canitas” exploded in the last minute of the fourth and Hernandez was defenceless on the ropes when it was stopped. First defence of his WBC Fecarbox title for 20-year-old prospect. Between them these two had recorded 19 first round wins, so it was almost a surprise it went as long as it did.

First defence of his WBC Fecarbox title also for de la Mora who could not find a finishing punch but took a wide unanimous decision over Colombian. Another Fecarbox title fight sees “Puppy” Quintero continue his good run with a kayo of Colombian veteran Sotelo,35. Only loss in his last 17 for southpaw Quintero was against Ty Harris, and he has wins over Nick Casal and Wes Ferguson. In yet another WBC Fecarbox title fight, this for the interim title, “Bazooka” Cervantes has Hernandez under fire and not fighting back when it is stopped in the tenth. Local prospect “Che Che” Lopez makes it 17 in a row, 16 by KO/TKO, but opposition awful.

Neuquen, Argentina: Middle: Bill Godoy (17-0) W KO 1 Fernando Pereyra (15-4). Light Welter: Aldo Rios (48-5) W PTS 10 Saul Carreon (14-3-1).One big right and it is all over in 68 seconds as “El Nino”, 23, retains his WBC Fecarbox title. First time Pereyra has failed to last the distance. Terrible decision as Mexican Carreon, 24, looks to be a clear winner taking most of the rounds and with 36-year-old Rios only just lasting the distance. Local referee deducts two points from Carreon for minor infringements and local judges give it Rios who “wins” vacant WBC Latino title by 96-92. Argentinian newspaper source scored it 98-90 to Carreon! Rios was halted in nine rounds by Ricky hatton back in 2003.

Quartu Sant'Elena, Italy: Welter: Luciano Abis (29-1-1 ) W TEC DEC 8 Kobe Vandekerkhove(18-9-2). Welter : Michele Di Rocco (28-1-1) W PTS 6 Peter McDonagh (15-18). Abis wins vacant European Union title as well in front on points when eye damage suffered in the second round becomes too bad for him to continue. Only loss for “Bazooka” Abis was in a challenge for the European title against Rafa Petkiewicz last year, but opposition modest. Vanderkerkhove lost to Brian Rose in St Helens back in Jube 2008. “The King” Di Rocco outpoints tough and durable Irishman McDonagh.

Windhoek, Namibia: Bantam: Paulus Abundant (13-0) W PTS 12 Klaus Flamboyance(12-8-2). Super Middle: Wilberforce Shipowner (13-6) W KO 4 Innocent Salesmanship (1-2). “The Rock” Abundant retains WBO African title with a unanimous verdict over South African. Abundant started well, then “Iron Man” Flamboyance, a former South African bantam champion, had a good spell in the middle rounds. However, the strength of Ambunda told at the end. “Black Mamba” Shishepo, back in the ring after an absence of 14 months, made it a double for the home fighters as he kayoed late substitute Kalimanshi in four. Now eleven by KO/TKO for Shihepo.

July 25

Osaka, Japan: Koki Kameda (23-1) W KO 4 Cecilio Santos (24-15-3). Bantam: Daiki Kameda (17-2) W PTS 10 Rosendo Vega (16-6). Win double for the Kameda brothers as former undefeated WBA light fly and former WBC fly Koki kayos a sliding Santos in four. WBA fly champ Daiki much too good for Vega and wins by a mile, but can,t force a stoppage. Scores 100-90 twice and 100-91.

Johannesburg, South Africa: Super Feather: Sipho Taliwe (11-2-1) DREW 12 Godfrey Nzimande (20-3-3). Challenger Nzimande shakes Taliwe in first and sweeps the early rounds. Taliwe scores heavily in the later rounds, busting-up the face of former champion Nzimande and in the end a majority draw looked right. Scores 115-113 for Nzimande and two scores of 114-114, so Taliwe retains title in second defence.
