May 19

Mexico City, Mexico: Fly: Oscar Ibarra (22-4) W KO 1 Rosendo Vega (16-5). Light Middle: Mike Rosales (27-3) W TKO 1 Eduardo Mondragon (9-3).  Ibarra, 24, comes in overweight so loses his WBC Latino title. Floors 32-year-old Vega twice finishing with a body shot with 23 seconds left in the round. Rosales, 27, gets rid of outclassed Mondragon, halting him with just five seconds to go in first. The 5’11” tall Rosales has 23 wins by KO/TKO and his three losses have been to world rated fighters.

May 20

Sydney, Australia: Bantam: Vic Darchinyan (35-2-1) W PTS 12 Eric Barcelona (51-18-4). Super Feather: Will Tomlinson (13-0-1) W DIS 4 Ramon Elizer Esperanza (13-2-1). Easy night for WBA and WBC super fly champ Darchinyan. “The Raging Bull” floors tough Filipino twice in fifth and again in eleventh. Wild swinging southpaw Barcelona 28 also loses points in sixth and last rounds for low blows. Scores 120-103, 119-105 and 116-108. This for vacant IBO bantam title which gives 34-year-old his third division title. Darchinyan reportedly came into the fight with a broken left hand. Barcelona qualified by losing to Kohei Oba in March. Unsatisfactory win for 23-year-old “Wild Will” as Paraguayan thrown our for constant holding.

Maha Sarakham, Thailand: Super Bantam: Poonsawat (41-1) W KO 4 Shoji Kimura (23-4-2). Three left hooks to the body in succession from WBA secondary champion Poonsawat and the challenge of Japan's Kimura is over. Second defence for 29-year-old Thai who won title by halting Bernard Dunne in September. He now has 29 by KO/TKO and has won his last 17 fights since losing to Wladimir Sidorenko in 2006. Kimura had lost his Japanese title in December, but still got the title shot.

May 21

Lyon, France: Super Bantam: Arsen Martirosyan (16-3) W PTS 12 Jeremy Parodi (28-1-1). Armenian-born Martirosyan just edges previously unbeaten 23-year-old Parodi by close majority decision in hard fough contest and wins vacant WBC International title. Scores 115-113 twice and 114-114.Martirosyan beaten in European title challenge by Rendall Munroe in 2008. Parodi holds French and IBF Youth titles.

Brescia, Italy: Light Welter: Brunet Zamora (20-0) W TKO 1 Eduardo Roman (41-5). Light: Emiliano Marsili (21-0-1) W TKO 9 Luca Marasco (15-1) . Welter: Leonard Bundu (22-0-1 ) W T DEC 6 Ronny McField (13-6-2).Cuban-born Zamora too strong for Argentinian and scores two knockdowns on way to quick win. Zamora, 35, retains WBA Intercontinental title for fourth time. Roman, 36, turned pro in 1997 and has had at least one fight in every year since then. Southpaw Marsili, 36, wins Italian title as he outworks champ Marasco. Floors him heavily at end of ninth when Marasco’s corner calls it off. Southpaw Bundu floors Nicaraguan McField twice in first, then is cut in clash of heads in third and cut ruled too bad for Sierra Leon-born Italian to continue in sixth. Goes to cards and Bundu wins unanimous technical verdict, as he did against same opponent in December.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa: Feather: Sabelo Jubatha (11-1) W TKO 2 Marcel Japhta (10-2-1).Two novices fight like novices. Jubatha, 29, shaken at end of first but then overwhelms challenger Japhta in second to retain national title in his first defence. Neither fighter showed much skill.

New York, USA: Shannon Briggs (50-5-1,1ND) W TKO 1 Dom Alexander (19-9-1). Two body shots and this rubbish is all over in just 20 seconds. Alexander gets up but fight stopped. Now 38, the former WBO champ would now have three first round wins in a row, but he tested positive for a banned substance after his December win. Poor Alexander has been stopped in 6 of his last 9 fights. Briggs is still a name so he will take no chances, hoping a big fight is out there for him.

Laredo, USA: Light: Ji Hoon Kim (21-5) W TKO 1 Ameth Diaz (27-10,1ND). Light Welter: Ruslan Provodnikov (16-0) W TKO 9 Emanuel Augustus (38-32-6). Another impressive win for “Volcano”. Korean Kim, 23, floors Panamanian heavily at the end of the first round with a big right. Diaz beats the count but in no condition to continue. That’s 18 by KO/TKO and eleven by KO/TKO in a row. This an IBF eliminator even though heavy-fisted Kim is IBO super feather champ. He turned pro without any amateur experience and lost three of his first five fights. Russian Provodnikov floors 35-year-old Augustus in fifth and twice in ninth and referee stops the fight with the tiring veteran badly battered and cut up. Augustus came in as very late substitute. Eleven by KO/TKO for Provodnikov.

Fort Worth, USA: Light Welter: Sharif Bogere (16-0) W TKO 4 Ilido Julio (40-18-1). “The Lion Warrior” comes in as a late sub and gives 39-year-old Colombian a beating until Julio pulls out claiming a shoulder injury. Hurt in first, Julio takes punishment the rest of the way. Only 21, Uganda Bogere looks a good prospect and now has ten by KO/TKO. Julio started out as a flyweight, but had kayoed prospect Dominic Salcido in September.

Kiev, Ukraine: Light: Valentyn Kuts (21-1) W PTS 12 Sam Rukundo (15-2-1). Middle: Avtandil Khurtsidz (21-1-2) W T KO 8 Mihaly Kotai (36-4-1). Local southpaw Kuts , 29, wins controversial split verdict over Sweden-based Ugandan Rukundo. Scores 115-114 twice and 113-116 as Kuts retained WBA Inter continental title and vacant EABA(WBA version of the European title). Rukundo, 30, lost to Gary Buckland in Commonwealth eliminator in February. Georgian Khurtsidze 31, floors Hungarian in second, fifth and seventh rounds and Doctor calls for finish. Georgian retains WBA Inter Continental and EABA titles. Kotai, 33, is a former IBO and WBF champion.

Lugano, Switzerland: Roberto Belge (25-0-1) DREW 12 Andrei Abramenko (14-0-2). Good match between unbeaten fighters sees hometown guy “Rubi” Belge, 30, retain his IBC title for third time with a draw against twenty-three year old Abramenko from Belarus. Belge won the title by beating Val Kuts in December 2008. First fight outside Belarus for Abramenko. Scores 113-112, 112-112 and 113-114.

May 22

Los Angeles, USA: Feather : Rafael Marquez (39-5) W TKO 3 Israel Vazquez (44-5). Bantam: Jhonny Perez (20-0-1) DREW 12 Abner Mares (20-0-1).Almost all over before it begins as Vazquez cut badly over left eye by a punch right at the start of the first round. Marquez on top in second as cut worsening. Vazquez cut again in clash of heads at start of third then floored and badly hurt. Marquez follow-up attack enough to have the referee call it off. Marquez, 35, a former IBF bantam and WBC super bantam levels the series at 2 wins each. Vazquez 32, former IBF and WBC super bantam champ, may now think retirement. Great little fight as Colombian retains IBF title on a majority draw, Scores 114-114 twice 115-113 for Mares. Perez, 31 making first defence of title he won from Joseph Agbeko in October, behind in the early going then seemed to take the middle rounds but from tenth on Mexican Mares,24, stages strong finish.

Rostock, Germany: Heavy: Ruslan Chagaev (26-1-1) W PTS 12 Kali Meehan (35-4).Super Feather: Vitali Tajbert (20-1) W TEC DEC 9 Hector Velazquez (51-15-2,1ND). Heavy: Siarhei Liakhovich (25-3) W KO 9 Evans Quinn (18-4-1). Light Heavy: Alek Kuziemski (19-1) W PTS 10 Igor Mikhalkin (11-1). Super Fly: Pal Bedak (8-0) W TKO 3 Pedro Cardenas (12-7). Former WBA champion Chagaev overcomes height and reach disadvantages to outbox Fijian-born Aussie. Chagaev better skills and busier style give him the edge in most rounds and although rocked in seventh he is in control and wins wide unanimous verdict on scores of 118-110, 117-111, and 117-112. Uzbek southpaw Chagaev, 31, now mandatory challenger to David Haye. Former WBO title challenger Meehan, 30, having his first fight since August 2008 was once stopped in 32 seconds by Danny Williams.

WBC champ Tajbert, 27, badly cut on left eyelid in clash of heads in the first round. With superior hand speed and movement Tajbert outboxes static thirty-five-year-old Mexican veteran until ninth when it is ruled the cut is too bad for Kazak-born German Tajbert to continue. It goes to the cards with Tajbert winning on scores of 87-83, 88-82, and 88-83 to retain WBC title. Third loss in a row for Velazquez. Good technical battle between gym mates for German International title sees Kuziemski, 33, generally getting off first and being more accurate than taller Russian.. Pole does enough to win unanimous verdict on scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 97-94. Kuziemski lost to Juergen Braehmer for the interim WBA title in August. Former WBO champ Liakhovich looks slow and ponderous as quicker Quinn gives him a bloody nose and some eye damage. Belarus fighter finally catches up with Nicaraguan, forces a standing count in seventh and in ninth a big right puts Quinn down and counted out in rising. Hungarian prospect Bedak, 24, floors outclassed Chilean twice for stoppage win in third.

Uncasville, USA: Middleweight: Peter Manfredo (35-6) W TKO 10 Angel Hernandez (30-8).Feather: Matt Remillard (22-0) W TKO 4 Carlos Rivera (16-5-2 ). Manfredo, 29, wins vacant IBO title. He outboxes game Mexican, cuts him in third, is well in front and has Hernandez hurt on the ropes in ninth when the referee stops it. Manfredo a Joe Calzagghe victim back in 2007. Remillard floors Rivera with low blow in second. Is himself cut in clash of heads in the same round. Finally floors Rivera twice and halts him in four.Remillard,24, retains NABF title and wins vacant NABO.

Mexico City, Mexico: Straw: Juanito Hernandez (17-1) W DIS 3 Denver Cuello (19-3-5). Blood and thunder from the first bell from these two twenty-three year olds. Hernandez scores a flash knockdown in first. Filipino southpaw Cuello takes second and explodes in third flooring Hernandez with a left, then, whilst Hernandez on his hand and knees, throws another punch which smacks into Mexicans body and puts him flat on his back. Cuello promptly disqualified.

Rosario, Argentina: Light Welter: Cesar Cuenca (37-0,2ND) ND 1 Nazereno Ruiz (27-14, 1ND). Super Middle: Pablo Farias (15-0) W PTS 12 Oscar Veliz (28-16-2,1ND).This return match came to an early end as a clash of heads in the first round left Ruiz with a bad cut and the fight was ruled a no decision. Ruiz lost on points to Alex Arthur back in 2004. Southpaw Cuenca, 29, retains his Argentinian title. Ruiz, also 29, a former South American champion had lost to Cuello in December. “Pokemon” Farias, 22, given tough fight by Veliz, Takes the early rounds. Veliz, 31, the South American champ, stages a strong finish but just too little too late as Farias retains WBC Latino title on scores of 119-115, 118.5-115 and 116.5-114. South American title not on the line.

Abbeville, France: Heavy: Johann Duhaupas (23-1) W TKO 8 Pavels Dolgovs (5-6-1). Duhaupas, 29, halts late sub Dolgovs from Latvia to win vacant WBC Mediterranean title. Easy enough for 6’5” tall Frenchman. Tunica, USA: Light Middle: Shawn Porter (15-0) W TKO 5 Robert Kliewer (10-11-2). Rubbish match as former US Olympic alternate Porter floors poor Kliewer in second, third and four times in round five. Porter, 22 retains NABO title. Kliewer now lost 7 of his last 8.

Reading, USA: Heavy: Travis Kauffman (20-1) W TKO 2 Chris Koval (24-7). In front of his hometown fans the fighter nicknamed “”GW Hope” had an easy night against modest Koval. After hurting Koval with body punches early, Kauffman, 24 and 6’3” tall, then switched to southpaw and scored two knockdowns in the second for a stoppage. This wins him the vacant WBF International title. Question marks remain over Kauffmann after his kayo loss to Tony Grano in September. Koval has now lost 5 of his last 6, all by KO/TKO. As an amateur Kauffman lost twice to David Price in 2003 when representing the USA.

 Atlantic City, USA: Bantam: Teon Kennedy (15-0) W PTS 10 Jose Angel Beranza (32-18-2 ). Excellent learning fight for former National Golden Gloves and US Under-19 champ Kennedy. He starts fast then grizzled Mexican veteran Beranza starts to roll and applies the pressure. Mixing more than he should, Kennedy matches Beranza and finishes strongly to win unanimous verdict. Scores 117-111, 117-111 and 115-113.

Tauranga, New Zealand: Heavy: Chauncy Welliver (42-5-5) W PTS 12 Daniel Tai (18-8-2). Spokane-born Welliver,27, takes unanimous verdict over former victim Tai in New Zealand title defence. Welliver now lost just one of his last 24.

Valencia City, Philippines: Light Middle: Charles Whittaker (36-12-2) W TEC DEC 6 Jakkirt Suwunnalirt (15-16-1). Cayman Islander well ahead when cut forces finish. Poor match. Whittaker, 36, lost only one of last 22 and Thai just three wins in last 17.

Reno, USA: Joey Gilbert (19-2,1ND) W TKO 7 Tony Bartinelli (20-14-2). No knockdowns but University of Nevada graduate Gilbert on top all the way and has Bartinelli in trouble when the referee stops fight. Gilbert rebuilding after legal troubles with Nevada Commission over 2008 failed drug test.

May 23

Cebu City, Philippines: Bantam: Michael Domingo (41-15-2 ) W KO 2 Luis Melendez (26-6-1). Light: Jimrex Jaca (30-6-3)W TKO 4 James Kimori (15-4). Light: Jason Pagara (22-1) W TKO 2 Romeo Jakosalem (10-4-1). Body attack does it for “Bruce Lee” Domingo,30, as he finishes Colombian with wicked left hook to the body in second. Nine wins in a row for Domingo including a stoppage of Jose Navarro in September. Four losses in last five now for Melendez. Jaca has it easy against game southpaw Kimori. Shakes Kenyan in first then floors him in second. Kimori cut in clash of heads in third and floored again in fourth when referee stops the fight. Jaca turned pro on his 17th birthday. He lost to Juan Manuel Marquez in a challenge for the WBA interim feather title in 2006.

Impressive win for 17-year-old Pagara ( some sources say 18, so he turned pro at 14 or 15) as he floors Jakosalem in first and has him reeling again in second when the referee stops the fight. Pagara holds the Philippines national title. Filipino Z Gorres attended the fight. He is recovering from a brain operation which saved his life. He collapsed after being floored in the last round when beating Melendez on point in November.

Moscow, Russia: Welter: Vitaliy Demyanenko (19-0) W TKO 2 Walter Gomez (22-9-1 ). Demyanenko overpowers very late substitute Gomez and halts Argentinian in second round to retain PABA title for eighth time and WBA Asia Pacific title for first time.
