March 4

Los Angeles, USA: Welter: Ernesto Zavala (21-4) W TKO 3 Jason Davis (11-6-1). Heavy: Damian Wills (27-2-1) W TKO 4 Billy Willis (11-20-1). Southpaw Zavala, 37 and out of the ring since 2005, takes a while to shake of rust, but is in front when Davis retires with shoulder injury. Wills halts 35-year-old Texan in four. Only losses for “Bolo” Wills to Kevin Johnson and Chris Arreola.

Calolziocorte, Italy: Light: Luca Marasco (15-0) W PTS 10 Pasquale DiSilvio (11-2). Welter: Robert Belge (24-0) W PTS 6 Attila Molnar (16-16-6). Excellent fight sees challenger DiSilvio, a late substitute, take an early lead with classy boxing, but two-fisted aggression and fast-paced attack of Marasco sees him finish the better and take a close unanimous verdict over former interim champ. Third defence for 26-year-old Marasco. Scores 97-94 twice and 96-94. Swiss Belge outpoints journeyman. Belge is IBC “world” champion.

Hyeres, France: Cruiser: Rachid El Hadak (20-8-1) W PTS 10 Zakaria Azzouzi (11-2-1). Super Middle: Jonathan Profichet (9-5) W KO 7 Hakim Chioui (13-1).El Hadak, 36, retains French title for second time. Has too much experience and too good a jab for Azzouzi and is clear, unanimous points winner on scores of 98-92 twice and 97-93. Strangely El Hadak once boxed for the Belgian title. He also lost to David Dolan in 2008. Upset as kayo puncher Chioui, 13 inside the distance wins in a row, is out boxed by modest Profichet and finally kayoed with a right in the seventh. Although Profichet’s record is not impressive he has won 7 of his last 8 fights.

Rome, Italy: Welter: Daniele Petrucci (25-0-1) W PTS 12 Ronny McField (13-5-2,1ND). Petrucci moved up from six round bout to twelve at late notice but wins every round. Limited, but tough, Nicaraguan McField makes unbeaten hope fight all the way, loses a point in the eleventh for taking a bite out of Petrucci’s shoulder. Scores 119-108 twice and 117-110 as Petrucci picks up IBF International title. Still unbeaten, he has wins over Craig Watson and Neil Sinclair in 2008.

Temecula, USA: Light: Martin Honorio (28-4-1) W PTS 12 Wilton Hilario (12-1-1). Super Bantam: Rico Ramos (15-0) W KO 4 Cecilio Santos (24-13-3). Light: John Molina (19-1) W KO 1 Ricardo Medina (31-36-5). Welter: Mike Dallas Jr. (12-0-1) W TKO 1 Fabian Luque (21-10-4). Young Dominican tries to force pace, but Honorio dictates with his stick and move style. Former IBF feather title challenger Honorio floors Hilario twice in sixth and wins going away to take wide unanimous verdict to retain NABO title. Mexican has now lost only one of his last twelve. Ramos, 22, finishes veteran Santos with a left hook to the body. Santos has had three world title shots including a draw with Dimitri Kirilov in 2008 for IBF super fly title. Molina comes back from first career loss, to Honorio in November, and floors 39-year-old former Mexican flyweight champ twice for stoppage in just 100 seconds. Dallas, 23, finishes Mexican Luque with a powerful right, but five stoppage losses in a row for Luque.

Culiacan, Mexico: Feather: Fernando Beltran Jr (26-6-1,1ND) W T KO 9 Rafael Urias (22-17-1). Early shock for former undefeated IBO champ as southpaw Beltran is floored in third, but finally manages to catch up with experienced Urias in ninth.

Harlingen, USA: Light Middle: Roberto Garcia (28-2, 1ND) W TKO 3 Jose Medina (15-18). Bantam: Sergio Perales (14-0) W KO 6 Josimar Olivares (12-6).Tall 29-year-old Garcia too much for poor Puerto Rican Medina. Scores knockdown and forces stoppage in third. Former top amateur Perales, a 22-year-old southpaw, dominates, but cut in fourth and rocked in sixth before flattening Olivares with one punch.

Los Mochis, Mexico: Light Heavy: Everardo Armenta Jr (22-11) W TKO 5 Jorge Valenzuela (10-15. Armenta, 41, a former Mexican middleweight champion and WBO light heavyweight title challenger, in front when Valenzuela pulled out with cut.

Isidro Casanova, Argentina: Super Feather: Domingo Damigella (34-5) W PTS 12 Fabiano Ayala. Total mismatch as 42-year-old Damigella wins ten out of twelve rounds and forces 36-year-old unknown Brazilian to take a standing count in last. This for vacant World Boxing Commission title-that's the WBC but not THE WBC. Scores 120-107, 120-109, and 118-109. Damigella lost to Steve Robinson for the WBO feather title in 1995.

Guaymas, Mexico: Middle: Rogelio Medina (22-0) W PTS 10 Demetrius Davis (19-20-5). Prospect “Porky” wins but not easily. Hurt by body shot in fifth but recovers to earn unanimous decision.

March 6

Uncasville, USA: Light Welter: Devon Alexander (20-0) W TKO 8 Juan Urango (22-3-1). Cruiser: Wayne Braithwaite (24-4) W KO 1 Adam Harris (10-4). Heavy: Derrick Rossy (25-2) W PTS 12 Zack Page (20-28-2). Light Welter: Harrison Cuello (18-12-3) W PTS Steve Forbes (34-8). WBC champ Alexander, a 22-year-old southpaw, and IBF champ Urango, 29, fairly even up to end of seventh with Alexander boxing beautifully and Urango applying pressure. In eighth Alexander floors Urango with heavy right uppercut and floors him again to force stoppage and unify the titles. First defence for Alexander since winning vacant WBC by beating Junior Witter last August. Also first defence for Urango. He lost for the IBF version to Ricky Hatton in 2007. Former WBC champ Braithwaite uses three punch combination to put over-matched Harris out at the end of the first. Predictable win for Rossy against 36-year-old trial horse Page. Height and reach advantages of Rossy, 29, too much for Page who is floored heavily in sixth and losses by wide margin 120-107, 118-109 and 117-110. Upset and perhaps the end of the road for former IBF super-feather champ Forbes as he loses majority verdict to Cuello.

Rancho Mirage, USA: Super Fly Vic Darchinyan (34-2-1) W PTS 12 Rodrigo Guerrero (13-2-1). Light: Lenny Zappa (23-0) W PTS 12 Fernando Angulo (22-7). Darchinyan, now 34,  takes a few rounds to get into his stride but then punishes poor game Mexican southpaw Guerrero, who takes a beating, but lasts the distance. Scores 120-108, 118-110 and 117-11. Darchinyan retains WBA and WBC titles. Zappavigna (Zappa) wins with unanimous verdict over Ecuadorian veteran. Even fight early with Zappa badly cut on right eyelid in sixth and cut again over left eye in eleventh. Angulo comes on strong in closing rounds and looks to be in front despite losing a point for hitting on the break in tenth. Scores 116-111 twice and 114-112 give 22-year-old Aussie the decision, but Angulo looks unlucky. Angulo failed to make weight so not sure if vacant IBO title at stake.

Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico: Welter: Saul Alvarez (31-0-1) W KO 3 Brian Camechis (19-3). Light: Reyes Sanchez (18-3-1) W TKO 7 Mario Sanchez (10-6). Super Feather: Carlos Cardenas (10-3-1) W KO 1 Rafael Guzman (24-2). Super Bantam: Giovanni Caro (15-8-4) W TKO 3 Juan Carlos Olvera (14-7). Alvarez, 19, massacres outclassed Camechis. Floors Camechis twice in second round and kayos him in third with left hook to retain NABF title. Now 22 by KO/TKO for Alvarez. In WBC Continental Americas title bout Reyes Sanchez well on top. Punishes Mario Sanchez throughout sixth and referee stops it in seventh. Wild few minutes as favourite Guzman floors Cardenas with his first punch, but gets careless when trying for a finish and is himself floored twice and kayoed. Veteran Cardenas wins WBC Fecarbox title. Dangerous but fragile Caro retains WBC Fecarbox title as he floors Olvera three times.

San Juan Pueblo, USA: Light: Johnny Tapia (56-5-2) W TKO 4 Jorge Reyes (21-27-3). Oh dear! At 43, and after three years out, Johnny makes yet another comeback. Giving away 8lbs, Johnny is fed a patsy in former sparring partner Jorge Reyes who puts up no effort. Takes a standing count in second, goes to the floor twice in third and again in the fourth and surrenders. I have met Johnny at the International Boxing Hall Of Fame, that’s where he belongs, not in the ring.

Atlantic City, USA: Welter: Shamone Alvarez (21-2) W KO 7 Alexis Camacho (17-3). Heavy: Vinny Maddalone (33-6, 1ND) W TKO 5 Dom Alexander (19-8-1). A real crossroads fight for both 33-year-old Alvarez and Mexican Camacho as both had suffered losses in important fights previously. Alvarez generally in control and as Camacho tired Alvarez found a straight southpaw left that put Camacho down. Doctor climbs in during the count as Camacho obviously out. Alvarez previously lost in two IBF eliminators. Heavy-handed Queens fighter Maddalone, 36, too much for Alexander and scores four knockdowns on his way to a fifth round stoppage.

Montreal, Canada: Super Middle: Sebastien Demers (31-2 ) W PTS 10 William Joppy (39-6-1). Super Middle: Nic Poulard (14-3) W PTS 8 Larry Sharpe (24-8 ).Welter: Kevin Bizier (9-0) W KO 1 Noel Cortez ( 17-17). Close, hard-fought contests sees Demers finish strongly to take majority verdict over 39-year-old former WBA middle champ Joppy on scores of 97-93 twice and 95-95. Joppy announced his retirement after the fight-again .Poulard, 32, bounces back from loss to Demers as he floors experienced southpaw Sharpe in first and goes on to win comfortable unanimous verdict 79-72 twice and 78-73. Sharpe a loser to Scott Dann for the Commonwealth middle title in 2006, and to Darren Barker in 2008. Two left hooks from Bizier put Mexican danger man Cortez down for the count.

Soissons, France: Light Heavy: Thierry Karl (27-4) W PTS 10 Karim Bennama (18-15-2). Light Middle: Cedric Vitu (28-1 ) W PTS 10 Nicolas Guisset ( 20-18-1). Karl wins vacant French title and is taken the distance the first time as a light heavy. Bennama, a loser to Karl in November made a good fight of it. Karl cut during a clash of heads in the fourth but always in front and wins unanimous decision by scores of 99-90, 98-91 and 99-92. Bennama has losses to Darren Corbett in 2004 and Steve Spartacus in 2006 on his record. “Titi” Vitu wins vacant French title with a wide points victory over Guisset. Scores 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93. Fourth title shot for Guisset, who was a points loser to Ted Bami in 2008.

Sydney, Australia: Light Middle: Ryan Waters (19-2-2) W KO 8 Elvin Marbun (13-9-2). Super Middle: Michael Bolling (11-0 ) W TKO 7 Joel Bourke ( 14-19-2). Feather: Billy Dib (25-1, 1ND) W KO 6 Carlos Lopez (20-6). Waters, 32, wins vacant WBO Asian Pacific and defends WBO Oriental title with kayo of Indonesian champ. Southpaw Bolling, 25, retains Aussie title with stoppage of modest Burke who was having his third shot at winning a national title. Billy “The Kid”, a former WBO feather challenger, stops Indonesian import in chump change match.

Tokyo, Japan: Naoki Matsuda (32-8-4,1ND) W PTS 12 Vinvin Rufino (17-8-3). 114-112, 111-114 &  114-111. Real see-saw bout as Masuda wins vacant OPBF title. Filipino champion Rufino, a southpaw, scores heavy knockdown in third and cuts Matsuda. Matsuda bounces back with knockdowns in fourth and fifth. Both scrap it out until the end which sees Matsuda get a split decision by scores of 114-112, 114-111 and 111-114. A return is a must.

Tijuana, Mexico: Light: Ricardo Dominguez ( 30-5-2) W TKO 4 Leon Resendiz (22-24). Veteran Resendiz, 33, comes as a late sub for Ivan Valle and scores early success as he puts Dominguez down in first. All Dominguez in second as he puts Resendiz down twice and dominates third. Resendiz does not come out for fourth.

Boe, France: Karim Chakim (19-7) W PTS 10 Gildas Gracia (12-8 ) . Two modest fighters but they staged a great battle. Chakim wins unanimous verdict on scores of 98-92 twice and 97-93. Fifth defence for Chakim, but Gracia played his part.

Spodek, Poland: Light Matt Zegan (41-5-1) W PTS 12 Pierre Bonicel (17-4-2). Cruiser: Wojciech Bartnik (24-4-1) W PTS 10 Rene Huebner (25-15-2). Cruiser: Mateusz Masternak (18-0) W TKO 8 Faisal Ibnel Arrami (11-2). Light Heavy: Aleksy Kuziemski (18-1) W PTS 8 Lars Buchholz (12-4) Light Middle: Mariusz Cendrowski (18-2-2) W PTS 8 Andrei Rimmer (7-10-1). Hometown judges help 34-year-old Zegan. Although Pole scores early knockdown, Bonicel looks to have done enough to win, but two judges go for southpaw Zegan on scores of 115-112 and 114-113 and the other has it 113-114. Zegan wins WBO European title. Veteran Bartnik, 41, a southpaw, wins new Euro Profi-Box Association (don’t ask me I’ve never heard of it either) with wide unanimous verdict over German. Scores 100-90, 100-92 and 99-94. Bartnik represented Poland at the 1992, 1996 and 2000 Olympics. Masternak, 22, looks a good prospect as he has too much of everything for ordinary French-based Tunisian (ABU champion) and batters him to stoppage in eighth. Kuziemski, a loser to Juergen Braehmar for the interim WBO title in August, wins every round against German for 80-72 scores and former Olympian Cendrowksi wins unanimous verdict over another German.

Fairfax, USA: Light Middle: Chase Shields (22-3-1) W PTS 12 Jimmy Lange (31-4-2). Texan Shields has good start but fades as Lange’s body attack gets to him. However, with local boy Lange on top, lights failed and took almost ten minutes to get them working. Shields back on top and scores two knockdowns in eleventh to win WBC USNBC title. All scores 115-111 .

March 7

Johannesburg, South Africa: Heavy: Osborne Machimana (18-6-1) W TKO 8 Bull Muravha (7-5-1). Machimana retains national title for fifth time, but with approx. 56lbs advantage, and fighting a much less experienced opponent Machimana did himself no favours with a ponderous performance. Muravha starts well but slows and two knockdowns in the eighth sees Muravha cry enough.

Nagoya, Japan: Super Bantam: Kohei Oba (27-0-1)W PTS 10 Eric Barcelona (51-17-4). Bantam: Mikio Yasuda (16-4-2) W TKO 2 Takuro Kodama (21-7-5). Japanese champ Oba has problems with busy southpaw style of experienced Filipino but finishes strongly and takes unanimous verdict on scores of 97-93, 97-94 and 97-95. Yasuda wins vacant Japanese title scores knockdown in first and halts Kodama in second.

March 9

Tokyo, Japan: Fly: Rocky Fuentes (23-6-2) W PTS 12 Masafumi Okubo (16-3-1). Filipino champ, 25, collects vacant OPBF title as his left hooks give him the edge. Okubo badly cut but in the fight all the way only to lose on majority verdict. Scores 116-114, 115-113 and 114-114.
