October 1

Santa Ynez, USA: Light Welter: Tim Coleman (18-1-1) W KO 3 Patrick Lopez (20-3). Light: Archie Ray Marquez (11-0) W TKO 3 Juan Santiago (13-5-1). Good match-up on paper, but power punching from “Pit Bull” Coleman, 26, ends it early. Coleman had the classy Venezuelan down for a short count in the second, and a big right uppercut ended it in the third. Southpaw Lopez, 32, beat the count, but staggered and fell to the canvas again and it was stopped. First fight for Coleman since beating Mike Arnaoutis in December, not a noted puncher. He wins USBA title. Former double-Olympian Lopez had won five in a row going in including a victory over unbeaten prospect Pernice Brewer.

A point deduction for a low blow early in the second round seemed to galvanise 22-year-old Marquez. A sustained attack had Santiago, 25, down at the end of the round and Marquez jumped on him at the start of the third and forced the stoppage.

Tokyo, Japan: Super Bantam: Ryol Li Lee (17-1-1) W PTS 12 Poonsawat (41-2). Super Feather: Takashi Miura (20-1-2) W TKO 9 Takashi Inagaki (12-9-1). Japanese-born Korean Lee springs big surprise as he wins WBA secondary title from Thai veteran Poonsawat. The Japanese feather champ moved down a division and was given little chance. The Thai champ did all of the pressing and threw more punches, but Lee, 28, boxing on the retreat, was the one that was landing with sharp counters. Poonsawat, 29, a former WBA interim champ at bantamweight, who was cut over the left eye in the fifth and the right eye in the eighth, just never managed to pin down his clever challenger. Scores 118-110, 115-113, and 115-114. Now eleven wins in a row for Lee whose only loss was a technical decision back in 2007. Poonsawat, making his third defence, had won the secondary title by beating Bernard Dunne in 2009 and his only previous loss was a challenge for the WBA bantam title against Wladimir Sidorenko in Germany in 2006.

Japanese champion Miura, 26, punched too hard for moderate challenger Inagaki, 24, and scored knockdowns in second, third and ninth rounds. Fifth defence for southpaw Miura who has 16 wins by KO/TKO.

Corrientes, Argentina: Light: Jorge Barrios (50-4-1, 1 ND) W PTS 10 Wilson Alcorro (28-13-3). Feather: Sergio Medina (35-3) W TKO 4 Genaro Gonzalo Demarco (7-9-2): Welter: Hector Saldivia (35-2) W TKO 3 Jailton De Jesus Souza (12-2). A rusty Barrios applies a one-sided beating to game but outclassed 36-year-old Colombian. Barrios, 34, does his best to end it early but “La Hiena” not impressive and has to settle for a wide points verdict on scores of 100-90 ½”, 100-92 and 99 ½”-93 ½”. First fight in eleven months for Barrios, who has the shadow of his involvement in a fatal car crash in which a pregnant young girl was killed, hanging over him.

Former WBO title challenger “Rocky” Medina floors and halts poor Gonzalez. Easy win for Saldivia as he has Brazilian late sub down and then in trouble in third when the towel is thrown in. “El Tigre” has 28 wins by KO/TKO, but has rebuilding to do after his first round loss to Said Ouali in May.

Ghent, Belgium: Light: Jean Pierre Bauwens (17-0-1) DREW 10 Rudy Encarnacion (21-18-3). Heavy: Ismail Abdoul (36-18-2) W PTS 8 Ivica Bacurin (7-1-1). Light Middle: Karlo Tabaghua (16-2) W KO 2 Zoran Cvek (6-12-2). Despite hometown advantage Belgian prospect Bauwens, 22, held to a majority draw by experienced Spanish-based Dominican. Scores 95-95 twice 95-94. “The Black Wolf” Encarnacion,31, halted in eight rounds by Kevin Mitchell in July 2009. Veteran Abdoul gets unanimous points win over previously unbeaten Croatian. Scores 79-73 twice and 78-74. Bacurin had an upset win over German hope Tino Gross so was in with a chance. Easy for Swede Tabaghua who now has twelve wins by KO/TKO. Croat Cvek now lost six of his last seven.

Coburg, Australia: Super Middle: Serge Yannick (10-1) W PTS 12 Joseph Kwando (20-4). Upset as Yannick wins interim PABA title with unanimous decision over streaking Ghanaian Kwadjo. Scores 119-110, 117-111 and 116-112 for 27-year-old from Cameroon. Kwadjo had won his last 13 including a stoppage of former WBA title challenger Jaime Pittman.

Pathum Thani, Thailand: Light: Thai Tor Silachi (18-2) W TKO 4 Amor Tino (12-7-2). Bantam: Pungluang (31-1) W PTS 6 Rungrat Heman (0-1). Silachi, 25 retains WBO Orient title for the fifth time as he halts Filipino Tino. Strong body attack weakens challenger who is finally floored and halted in fourth. Twelve wins by KO/TKO for Silachi who had beaten Tino, 25, on a unanimous verdict in 2007. Tino is winless in five visits to Thailand. World rated Pungluang struggles to outpoint former Muay Thai fighter having his first international style fight.

Puerto Colombia, Colombia: Light Welter: Likar Ramos (23-3) W TKO 4 Julio Gomez (3-6). Light: Darley Perez (16-0) W PTS 10 Edinson Garcia (17-11,1ND). Southpaw former WBA interim super-feather champ Ramos,25, moves up two divisions. Almost finishes poor Gomez in third and puts him down with body shots in fourth for stoppage and victory No 17 by KO/TKO. Easy win for “Lightning” Perez. Loses a point for a low blow but wins wide unanimous verdict. Now seven losses in his last eight fights for Garcia. Scores 99-90 twice and 98-92.

October 2

Panama City, Panama: Cruiser: Guillermo Jones (37-3-2) W TKO 11 Valery Brudov (38-3). Fly: Luis Concepcion (22-1) W TKO 1 Denkaosan (50-3-1). Heavy: Hasim Rahman (49-7-2,1ND) W KO 1 Marcus McGee (22-18,1ND). Super Bantam: Alexis Munoz (35-3) W PTS 8 Leo Arrocha (10-14-2). Cruiser: Francisco Palacios (20-0) W KO 2 Donnell Wiggins (24-13-4).Middle: Nilson Tapia (14-2-1,1ND ) W PTS 10 Jorge Heiland (16-2).Feather: Irving Berry (18-1-2) W PTS 10 Feider Viloria (23-7-1,1ND). Heavy: Timur Ibragimov (30-2-1) W PTS 10 Luis Pineda (21-9-1). Light: Ameth Diaz (28-10,1ND ) W PTS 10 Javier Castro (24-3). Welter: Brad Solomon (14-0) W TKO 5 Pablo Vasquez (19-2). In his first defence of his WBA title, and his first fight since winning the title in September 2008 by beating First Arlan, Jones uses height and reach advantages to dominate fight against Russian Brudov, inactive since June 2009, and halts him in eleven due to bad cuts over both eyes. First four rounds fairly even, but then Jones stepped-up his punch rate and Russian had no answer. Jones well in front when referee rules out Brudov. The 6’4” 38-year-old Panamanian actually turned pro as a welterweight and drew and lost with Laurent Boudouani in challenges for the WBA light middle title in 1998. He also drew with Johnny Nelson for the WBO cruiser title in 2002. Brudov, 33, lost his WBA interim title to Arslan in 2007, and was also unsuccessful in a fight with Virgil Hill for this title in 2006.Amazing quick stoppage of former WBA champion Denkaosan.

“El Nica”, 24, retains WBA interim title for third time as he floors Thai three times for finish in just 64 seconds, and extends his winning run to 19 . Denkaosan, 34, only other stoppage loss was back in 2002 when he lost to Eric Morel for WBA fly title. Former WBC and IBF champ Rahman, 37, wins pointless mismatch as he disposes of “Migraine” McGee, 39, in first round. Now 39 by KO/TKO by “The Rock”. McGee went down twice from innocuous looking punches and was roundly booed by the crowd. Colombian Tapia wins vacant WBA Fedlatin title with wide unanimous verdict over Argentinian Heiland. Tapia uses his height, reach and better technique to out box Argentinian. Heiland badly cut by right in fifth loses on scores of 98-91, 98-92 and 97-92. This a WBA eliminator so now “The Hammer” Tapia hoping for shot at Felix Sturm. Heiland, who gave Sebastian Zbik a close match for the WBC interim title in July, never really got into the fight. “Lightning” Berry has too much class for Colombian. Wins in a breeze despite a few low blows from Viloria along the way. Scores 99-91 twice and100-90. Berry now unbeaten in his last 16 since losing to Nehomar Cermeno in 2005, retains WBA International title. Viloria kayoed by Roman Martinez in nine rounds in WBO super feather challenge in September 2009.

“Explosivo” Munoz,31, comes out of retirement but is far from his old self. Former double WBA super fly champ shows rust, he comes close to ending it in the last round, but only just edges out Panamanian “Jaws” Arrocha, 33, on a majority decision. Scores 77-75 twice and 76-76. Munoz won his first 22 fights by KO/TKO, which is where the “Explosivo” comes from. He is now looking for a shot at WBA champion Anselmo Moreno. Arrocha has lost seven of his last eight .

Another rubbish match as Puerto Rican Palacios, 33, blows away soft-chinned Wiggins. A knock-down in the first and two more in the second enough. That’s twelve by KO/TKO for “The Wizard”, but Wiggins has failed to win any of his last nine and has not won a fight since 2005. Uzbek Ibragimov, 35, wins wide unanimous verdict over localite Pineda. No highlights but a tough scrap. Scores 98-91, 98-92 and 97-92. Losses to Calvin Brock and Tony Thompson in 2006/7 were big setbacks for tall Uzbek, but he now has eight wins in a row. Pineda, 36, lost to Wayne Braithwaite in a challenge fore the WBC cruiser title in 2003, but is without a win in his last five.

Panamanian Diaz bounces back from loss to Korean Jihoon Kim with a unanimous verdict over world rated Mexican Castro. “Chloroform” Diaz took the early rounds, but then faded under the continuous pressure of the fighter from Juarez. Diaz got back into over the late rounds but the scores of 98-93, 97-94 and 97-93 for the local fighter did not reflect how close this was. Diaz wins WBA International title. Once again Solomon looks the goods as he floors puncher Vasquez twice and stops him in fifth. The tall 27-year-old from Lafayette retains WBA International title. Keep an eye on Solomon.

Hammond, USA: Middle: Andy Lee (24-1) W TKO 4 Troy Lowry (27-11). Middle: Henry Coyle (12-2) W PTS 6 Mustafa Johnson (8-8-1). Poor match on paper and even worse in fact. London-born, Irish southpaw Lee, 26, floors 40-year-old Lowry five times before fight stopped at the end of the fourth round. Eight wins in a row since upset loss to Bryan Vera in 2008 for Lee and now 18 by KO/TKO, but this was rubbish. Irishman Coyle, 29, wins unanimous verdict over Johnson. Coyle was stopped in three rounds by Neil Sinclair for the vacant Irish title in May 2009.

Guadalajara, Mexico: Super Fly: Juan Jose Montes (19-1) W TEC DEC 6 Sylvester Lopez (14-3-1). Light Welter: David Sandoval (17-1) W TKO 1 Jonathan Coronado (11-2-1). “Goofy” Montes, floors Lopez in first, but is cut badly over his right eye by a clash of heads in the second. “Goofy”, 21, has to pull out in the fifth as cut worsens. Goes to the scorecards and WBC Youth champ wins on scores of 48-45 over 22-year-old Filipino Lopez. This a WBC eliminator. Both had beaten former world title holders in their previous fights, Montes beating Thai Wandee and Lopez beating Mexican Roberto Leyva. Sandoval keeps his record of all of his winning fights coming by KO/TKO and registers his eighth first round win as he collects WBC USNBC title.

Mashantucket, USA: Light Heavy: Joe Spina (26-1-2) W TKO 3 Antwun Echols (32-15-4 ). “KO Kid” Spina 33, makes it 18 by KO/TKO as he floors late sub Echols at the end of the second and follow-up attack rounded out by a left hook at start of third brings referees intervention. Seven wins and a draw since loss to Peter Manfredo Jr in October 2006. Echols, 38, just a shadow now with just one win in his last 14, reportedly ran out on a fight in Hammond on the same night to take this more lucrative match.

Mexico: Fly: Juan Kantun (17-1-2) W TKO 5 Eddy Zuniga (7-4-1). Light Middle: Jose Pinzon (18-1-1) W TKO 8 Jaime Barboza (16-4).Local idol Kantun has nothing to beat in poor Costa Rican, but struggles to bring it to an end. Now 13 by KO/TKO for Kantun whose only loss was against world rated Wilbert Uicab in 2008. Local fighter Pinzon gains revenge for his only defeat as he floors Costa Rican twice in the eighth and lifts WBC Youth title. First time Barboza has failed to last the distance.

Verona, USA: Middle: Sam Miller (21-4) W TKO 7 Isaac Rodrigues (17-1). Minor upset as Colombian-born Miller,31, makes his harder punching tell against Brazilian-born Rodrigues. Now 18 by KO/TKO for lanky Miller who floored and then halted Rodrigues, 25, in the seventh to win vacant WBC USNBC title. Miller coming off creditable loss to Marco Antonio Rubio in June. Rodrigues beat Bryan Vera in February.

Paranaque City, Philippines: Welter: Dennis Laurente (35-3-5) W TKO 1 Kompayak Sithsaithong (0-1). Southpaw Laurente, 33, makes short work of unknown Thai as he scores three knock-downs for automatic stoppage. Twelve wins in a row for experienced Filipino including victories over Steve Quinonez, Martin Cordova and Ben Tackie.

Cacak, Serbia: Super Middle: Nikola Sjekloca (18-0) W PTS 8 Gordan Glisic (6-9-2). Heavy: Jovo Pudar (23-3) W TKO 6 Sanid Imamovic (0-5). Light punching Montenegrin Sjekloca 32, continues unbeaten with wide points verdict over Croatian loser. Pudar,39, returns after six years with a win. Bosnian Pudar, who campaigned in the USA, beat Derek Bryant and lost on points to Samuel Peter before retiring. He now hopes to get down to cruiserweight.

Puerto Penasco, Mexico: Feather : Chris Perez (18-0 ) W PTS 12 Gil Bolanos (11-16-1 ). Super Fly: Juan Fsco. Estrada (16-0) W TKO 2 Manuel Armendariz. Favourite Perez run close by useful Bolanos and just collects interim WBC Fecarbox on split verdict. Bolanos had gone the distance with Juan Manuel Lopez and beaten Leonilo Miranda, but had lost two matches in a row going in. Estrada makes it 14 by KO/TKO as he scores knockdown of late sub Armendariz in first and stops him in second.
