July 28
New York, USA: Super Feather: Argenis Mendez (17-1) W PTS 8 Shamir Reyes (18-7-2,1ND). Fresh from an important win over Martin Honorio in May, talented Dominican Mendez, 24, has too much of everything for southpaw Reyes. Floors him at the end of first, hurts him in fifth and sixth and wins wide unanimous verdict on scores of 79-72 and 80-71 twice. Mendez competed in the 2004 Olympics and won a World Junior silver medal in the same year.
Kempton Park, South Africa: Bantam: Tshifhiwa Munyai (20-1-1) W KO 3 Prosper Ankrah . Heavy: Flo Simba (6-0) W TKO 1 Papy Mondende (1-2-1). Easy win for 25-year-old former undefeated Commonwealth champion “Atomic Spider” Munyai. Controls the fight with his height and reach advantage and middle of third round ends it when he puts Ghanaian down and out with an overhand right. Heavyweight hope Simba from D R Congo halts late sub, and fellow-countryman, Mondende, who pulls out with a knee injury after just 78 seconds.

Miami, USA: Light Middle: Ashley Theophane (27-4-1) W PTS 10 Delvin Rodriguez (25-5-2). Middle: Andy Lee (22-1) W KO 5 James Cook (11-4-1). Super Middle: Francisco Sierra (22-3) W TEC DEC 7 Don George (20-1-1). Welter: Jonathan Gonzalez (9-0) W TKO 6 Abel Perry (12-4). Welter: Yordenis Ugas (2-0) W TKO 1 DeJuan Jackson (1-1).Big win for “Treasure” from London. Dominican Rodriguez starts strongly and seems to be in front after six rounds, but then fades. Hurts Theophane in ninth but not enough to influence the judges as Theophane comes strongly in the later rounds Controversial majority decision as most ringsiders had Rodriguez, rated No 3 by the IBF, winning it. Scores 96-94 twice for Theophane and 95-95. Rodriguez had lost to Isaac Hlatshwayo for the vacant IBF title last August.
Lee, 26, floors Cook with southpaw left to the body in fourth only to have it ruled a low blow. Lands same punch again in fifth, this time for the finish. No win No 16 by KO/TKO for Lee, and seven wins since losing to Brian Vera in March 2008. Controversial win for Sierra over previously unbeaten George. Sierra hurts George in first two rounds and busts his nose. In seventh Sierra puts George down and then floors him again with a punch after the bell. George given five minutes to recover, but unable to go on. Instead of disqualification Sierra is deducted two points. Wins technical decision on scores of 68-63 and 69-62 twice, but expect a protest from George’s camp.
Puerto Rican prospect Gonzalez, 21, keeps up his 100 % record of wins by KO/TKO by halting Alaskan Perry. Cuban former World amateur champion and Pan American gold medalist Ugas halts poor Jackson in first. Ugas lost to Amir Khan in the World Junior championships in 2004.
Cancun, Mexico: Welter: Danny Garcia (18-0) W TKO 9 Jorge Romero (17-3). Fly: Juan Esquer (26-7-2) TEC DRAW 3 Gilberto Keb Baas (32-20-4). Super Middle: Marco Periban (9-0) W TKO 2 Franco Sanchez (12-7-2).Tough fight but great finish from Garcia. Unbeaten Philadelphian sweeps fist four rounds, but tough Romero has success in middle rounds and has Garcia’s face swelling. Garcia scores with big left hook in ninth. Romero, 20, makes it to his feet, but being battered when the referee stops it. “Swift”, 22, beat Theophane on a split decision in February. For Romero only three of his 20 fights have gone the distance, and his only other stoppage loss was due to a broken jaw. The fight between Esquer and veteran Keb Baas just warming up when a clash of heads sees Esquer too badly cut to continue. Former top amateur Periban floors Argentinian three times and now has six wins by KO/TKO.
Philadelphia, USA: Light Middle: Derek Ennis (22-2-1) W PTS 12 Gabe Rosado (14-5). Super Middle : Farah Ennis (15-0) W KO 3 Demetrius Davis (20-24-5 ). Super Middle: Dennis Hasson (10-0) W PTS 6 Alberto Mercedes (14-16-1). Great fight in the Philadelphia tradition. In battle of fringe contenders Ennis makes it ten wins in a row taking majority verdict on scores of 117-111, 116-112 and 114-114 to retain his USBA title. The lanky Rosado is never in a bad fight. No real match as Farah Ennin kayoes 41-year-old loser Davis whoo has won only one of his last eleven. Hasson, 26 stays unbeaten with unanimous win over Dominican. Scores 60-54, 59-55 twice. Hasson was a top level amateur.
Enna, Italy: Light Heavy: Danilo D’Agata (9-0-1) W PTS 10 Roberto Cocco (10-6-1). Sicilian D’Agata,26, wins vacant Italian title in his first move up to ten round bouts. Unanimous decision with scores of 97-93 twice and 97-94 for D'Aagat. Cocco, 33, already a loser in two shots at national super middle title.
Khemarat, Thailand: Feather: Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo (33-0) W PTS 12 Ericson Origenes (7-2-2). Cake walk for world rated Chonlatarn as he wins wide unanimous verdict over Filipino No 8 Origenes. Scores 118-110-119-109 and 120-109. Defence No 25 of WBC Asian title he won back in 2004.
New York, USA: Light: Mike Faragon (12-0) W TKO 4 Eddie Soto (12-2).Impressive performance from 23-year-old Faragon. He floors Soto with body punch in first and floors him a couple more times before the fight is called off in fourth.
Santiago de Chile, Chile: Super Feather: Oscar Bravo (14-1) W PTS 8 Gustavo Bermudez (10-3). Tough night for local Bravo. Floored in second for the first time in his career, Bravo fights back aggressively to have Argentinian on the back foot and wins unanimous verdict on scores of 77-75 and 79-74 twice.
July 31
Las Vegas, USA: Light: Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1) W PTS 12 Juan Diaz (35-4). Middle: Dmitry Pirog (17-0) W TKO 5 Dan Jacobs (20-1). Super Middle: Jean Paul Mendy (29-0) W DIS 1 Sakio Bika (28-4-2). Light Welter: Robert Guerrero (27-1-1,2ND) W PTS 10 Joel Casamayor (37-5-1). Light: Jorge Linares (29-1) W PTS 10 Rocky Juarez (28-7-1).Super Middle: George Groves (10-0) W TKO 6 Alfredo Contreras (11-8-1). Heavy: Seth Mitchell (18-0) W TKO 1 Derek Bryant (20-6-1). Light Welter: Frankie Gomez (5-0) W KO 1 Ron Peterson (3-3). Youth was not served as 36-year-old Marquez beat 26-year-old Diaz for the second time to retain his WBA and WBO titles. Boxing well within himself and giving Diaz a lesson on tactics, Marquez scored constantly with quick, accurate combinations to which Diaz had no answer. “Dinamita” was not even fazed by having to box with a badly swollen eye over the last few rounds and had Diaz rocking at the bell to clinch a wide unanimous verdict on scores of 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112.
Now Marquez naturally wants a third bout with Manny Pacquiao, he has drawn and lost a close decision to the Filipino in their previous two fights. Diaz a former IBF, WBA and WBO lightweight champion fought a more intelligent fight this time, but the change of tactics made little difference as there is no way he was going to outbox Marquez. Diaz had been stopped in nine rounds by Marquez in their previous match in February 2009 and since then had won and lost against Paul Malignaggi. After 33 wins in a row Juan is now 2-4 in his last six and is at a career crossroads.
Upset as Russian Pirog, 30, finished “The Golden Child” Jacobs with a right in the fifth to win the vacant WBO title. Jacobs ended on his back and the referee did not even finish the count before waving it over. Pirog switching and movement causing plenty of problems and Jacobs is almost floored in second. Keeps himself in the fight and is somehow ahead on all cards when Pirog explodes his bomb.
Finally someone gets disqualified for hitting an opponent when he is on his knees. Cameroon tough guy Bika launched an early attack that had unbeaten Mendy backed into a corner and floored him with a left hook. Mendy was on one knee when Bike threw another right which blasted the French southpaw face down on the canvas. Joe Cortez promptly disqualified Bika and it was all over in 76 seconds. This was an IBF eliminator so the 36-year-old southpaw should now get a shot at Lucien Bute. Mendy lost to Carl Froch in the European qualifiers for the 2000 Olympics. “The Scorpion” Bika, 31, who was IBO champion, will feel he threw away a certain win. He lost to Joe Calzaghe in a challenge for the IBF and WBO titles in 2006.
“The Ghost” is back in the big time. Former unbeaten IBF super feather champ Guerrero , 27, won big as he dominated Cuban veteran Casamayor to win a unanimous points verdict. Guerrero had been sidelined whilst he supported his wife in her battle against cancer and through promotional disputes, but he is now very much in the mix at lightweight or light welter. He floored the 39-year-old fellow southpaw, a former WBA super feather and WBC light champ, in the second. Casamayor was also deducted a point in the same round. The Cuban enjoyed brief success in the last round as he had Guerrero down for the first time in his career, but not badly hurt. Scores for Guerrero 97-90 and 98-89 twice.
Former WBC feather and WBA super feather champ Linares takes control from the start against Juarez and controls the fight with his left hand. Floors Texan in fifth, and despite injuring his right hand early in the fight, and a late rally by Juarez, Linares wins wide unanimous verdict on scores of 97-92 and 99-90 from the judges. “El Nino De Oro”, a 24-year-old Venezuelan, can now be a threat at lightweight. He still has to answer the questions set by his first round loss to Juan Carlos Salgado in October, but he has talent. Fifth loss in a world title fight for Juarez who at 30 is now talking retirement.
No knockdowns, but Commonwealth champion Groves, 22, applying a steady beating to more experienced Mexican and referee has seen enough in sixth. Former American footballer Mitchell , 28, overwhelms poor Bryant in just 95 seconds. Sustained attack has Bryant, 39, reeling. Eleven by KO/TKO for Mitchell but poor match as southpaw Bryant inactive since November 2008. Hot prospect Gomez, US national amateur champion in 2009, and world championships silver medalist, takes out poor Peterson early with a devastating left hook.
Hamburg, Germany: Middle: Sebastian Zbik (30-0) W PTS 12 Jorge Heiland (16-1). Super Middle: Dimitri Sartison (27-1) W PTS 12 Khoren Gevor (31-5). Heavy: Alex Dimitrenko (30-1) W TKO 5 Yaroslav Zavorotny (14-5). Super Middle: Karoly Balzsay (22-2) W KO 5 Aziz Daari (24-15-4). Heavy: Juan Carlos Gomez (48-2,1ND) W PTS 8 Zack Page (21-30). Middle: Mariusz Cendrowski (20-2-2) W PTS 8 Bronislav Kubin ( 10-3). Light Middle : Jack Culcay (6-0) W TKO 4 Ionut Trandafir Ilie (13-5-1). Zbik retains his WBC interim title for the third time as he outboxes the aggressive but limited Argentinian southpaw Heiland. Zbik technical skills give him the edge but Argentinian makes the fight interesting. Zbik rarely in exciting fight but usually does enough to win .Scores 117-111 twice and 116-112.
Kazakh-born Sartison makes a successful first defence of his WBA secondary title and makes surprisingly easy work of beating Armenian southpaw Gevor, who was moving up from middleweight. Height and reach edge with Sartison who looks to have registered a knockdown in the fourth as Gevor’s glove touched the canvas, but not scored. Gevor trying to mix things up loses a point in sixth for his tactics. Strong finish by Gevor not enough and Sartison retains on scores of 117-109, 117-110 and 115-112. Mismatch as big Dimitrenko, 6’7” and 28-years-old, easily handles fellow Ukrainian Zavorotny, 35, to win vacant European title. Dimitrenko floors Zavorotny in fifth and has him trapped in a corner when Zavorotny’s team throw in the towel. First fight for Dimitrenko since a loss to Eddie Chambers derailed him in July last year.
Former WBO champ Balzsay shows some ring rust in first fight in seven months. Moroccan-born former French light middle champ Daari has some early success but floored by big left cross from southpaw Balzsay in fifth and stopped. Former WBC cruiser champ Gomez , 37, has a workout against experienced spolier Page, also 37, and wins wide unanimous verdict on scores of 80-72 from all three judges. Pole Cendrowski, 32, has routine unanimous points win over Czech Kubin. Scores 79-73 twice and 79-74. Future star “Golden Jack” Culcay, 24, halts Romanian in fourth. Culcay, born in Ecuador, is a former World amateur gold medalist and European silver winner.
Tepic, Mexico: Super Fly: Juan Alberto Rosas (32-5) W TKO 6 Simphiwe Nongqayi (16-1-1). Super Bantam: Jorge Arce (55-6-1) W KO 1 Martin Castillo (35-4). Straw: Jesus Silvestre (18-2) W TKO 7 Moises Eb (11-4). “Golden Master” drops his IBF title in his second defence. Fighting in front of his home crowd Rosas punched too hard for the South African dominated from the fourth, and the referee stopped the fight when Nongqayi dropped to his knees in the sixth and looked finished. New champion “The Mole” Rosas “now has 26 wins by KO/TKO. He is the second world champion from Nayrit after Manuel Medina. Nongqayi a veteran even though he has had only 18 fights (he represented South Africa in the 1998 Commonwealth Games), looked great beating Jorge Arce in September, but struggled in a defence against Malik Bouziane in April and may now retire.
One vicious left to the body and it is all over as Arce finishes former WBA super flyweight champion Castillo in a ten round non-title fight. Now 41 by KO/TKO for 31-year-old WBO super fly champ Arce. Castillo, 33, who beat Floyd Mayweather Jr in the amateurs is a spent force.
Champoton, Mexico: Feather : Eduard Lazcano (21-1) W TKO 8 Tomas Sierra (9-18). “Chucky's” fight all the way as 24-year-old southpaw dominates Sierra and forces a stoppage in the eighth to win vacant WBC Mundo Hispana title.Eduardo's only loss was a disputed one to Miguel Beltran in the Azteca competition.
Sao Paulo, Brazil: Heavy: George Arias (46-11) W TKO 2 Saul Farah (41-13-2). Now 36, Brazilian Arias has no trouble with Bolivian Farah and easily retains South American title. Arias lost to Johnny Nelson for the WBO cruiser title in 2001 and to Audley Harrison in 2008.
Accra, Ghana: Light Heavy: Brahim Kamoko (20-0) W TKO 10 Hector Velazco (37-8-1). Welter: Joshua Okine (20-4-1) W PTS 12 Muhammad Abdullayev (20-4). Light Welter: Albert Mensah (22-3-1,1ND) W PTS 12 Karen Tevosyan (15-3-3). Super Feather: Emmanuel Tagoe (14-1) W TKO 1 Samuel Kamau (11-4-1). Middle: Peter Mashamaite (18-8-1) W PTS 12 Ishmael Tetteh (20-5-2). Feather: Alfred Tetteh W Ishmael Aryitey. Super Feather: Max Awuku W TKO 4 Dan Quartey.
Good night for Ghanian boxers. Having only his second fight in three years Kamoko's aggression too much for former WBO middle champ Velazco. “Bukom Banku” floors 37-year-old Argentinian southpaw in ninth and has him in trouble in tenth when the towel comes. Kamoko wins World Professional Boxing Federation title, but still has those medical allegations hanging over him. Former Commonwealth champion Okine 30, wins every round agaisnt Uzbek Abdullayev to lift vacant WPBF title. Scores 120-109 twice and 120-108 for 30-year-old southpaw. Now 36, Abdullayev, beat Miguel Cotto and Ricardo Williams in the Olympics, but was stopped by Cotto in a challenge for the WBO light welter title in 2005.
The lanky Mensah made it three WPBF titles for Ghana as he easily outpointed Russian Tevosyan on scores of 119-110 twice and 118-111. Tagoe retained his WBO African title with a stoppage of Kenyan Kamau. South African southpaw Mashamaite prevented a clean sweep for the locals, and halted a three bout losing streak for himself, by taking a unanimous verdict on scores of 118-112, 117-112 and 116-114 to win the WBO African title. Southpaw Awuku remained unbeaten with a fourth round stoppage of Dan Quartey.
Colon City, Panama: Light Middle: Alfonso Mosquera (20-7) W PTS 11 Daniel Edouard (23-3-2). Feather: Nicholas Walters (14-0) W TKO 5 Jose Miguel Payares (9-3). Light: Evens Pierre (14-1) W Rosano Lawrence (13-9-1). Tall Panamanian Mosquera, 28, lived up to his “Hurricane” nickname as he threw enough leather to smother any attempts by favourite Edouard to get untracked. Haitian Eduard came on in the last two rounds but Mosquera won a unanimous decision which gave him the WBA Fed Latin title. “Axe Man” Walters retained his Fed Latin title as Colombian Payares retires at the end of the fifth. Now 12 by KO/TKO for Jamaican Walters. Haitian Pierre reverses his only loss in slug fest with Panamanian “Bulldog” Lawrence. Both fighters on the deck before Pierre ends it with body punch.
Mandaluyong, Philippines: Super Feather: Rey Labao (18-2) W Jesus Singwancha (16-8). 26yo spw 13id, l 12 7/09 PBF title. 30yo DCR 2-7 1st 9 1l last 13.

More wrestling than fighting but prospect Bowman, 27, a former Nation Golden Gloves champion, brings it to an end with rights in the third. Puerto Rican southpaw Acevedo’s clutching tactics cost him a point in the first. Both fighters trying to mix even after the fight ended. Taylor has it easy as he floors modest Harris in the second and Harris retires at the end of the round claiming a shoulder injury. Now nine by KO/TKO for former Olympic trialist Crawford.
Pasig City, Philippines: Super Fly: Sylvester Lopez (14-2) W TKO 2 Wandee Singwancha (63-12-1). Ten wins in a row as Lopez, 22, retains WBC International title with crushing win over Thai veteran. Floors 30-year-old former WBC interim strawweight and light fly champ at the end of the first and twice in the second for impressive win. Wandee lost to Peter Culshaw for the WB Federation super flyweight title in 2003.
August 1
East London, South Africa: Bantam: PhumzileMatyhila (17-1-2) W PTS 12 Nkqubela Gwazela (20-7). Mild upset as more experienced Matyhila, 34, fighting out of his weight division, wins national title with split decisison over defending champion 30-year-old Gwazela. Champikon goes in the lead in early rounds but fades and Matyjila counter-punches his way to wafer thin victory. Scores 116-115, 115-114 and 113-115. Hits too hard for Bangoyanwho fails to come out for round seven due a closed left eye. That's 17 by KO/TKO for Villaneuva, but he needs to work on his defence. Bangoyan, a super bantam, somehow managed to come in 4 1/2lbs over the limit for this WBO Orient title fight. His only other loss was in April when he was stopped in five rounds by Toshiaki Nishioka in challenge for the WBC super bantam title. Villaneuva retains WBO Orient title.
Upset as expierenced Diale crushes unbeaten prospect Jabel. Scores knockdown in each round and fight stopped in third. Magbanua returns after a year of inactivity and scores quick kayo. Southpaw Porras, 24, now won his last eleven, nine by KO/TKO. “The Rock” wraps it up with body punches.
