Glendale, USA: Middle: Roman Karmazin (40-3,1ND) W KO 10 Dionisio Miranda (20-5-2). Middle: Jose Alberto Flores (44-10, 1ND) W TKO 2 Roberto Valenzuela (51-49-2). Heavy: Andrey Fedosov (21-1) W TKO 2 Lionel Butler (32-16-1, 1ND).
 
Near disaster for former IBF light middle champ 37-year-old Karmazin. Hurt in the third and floored and on shaky legs in the ninth he came back to floor and halt Colombian Miranda in the tenth in an IBF eliminator.
After the third Karmazin got back into the fight with a good body attack and had Miranda badly cut. Karmazin halted Dave Walker in three rounds in London back in 2003 in defence of his EBU light middle title. Mexican southpaw Flores a former WBA light middle challenger, now 37, returns after seven years out and halts 102 bout Valenzuela on cuts at the end of round two. Mismatch as 23-year-old Russian floors Butler twice for stoppage. Butler, 42-years-old, 5’11 ½” tall weighed 276lbs and looked pathetic. A stoppage loser to Lennox Lewis back in 1995, he should be saved from himself.
 
Tacoma, USA: Light Welter: Ray Beltran (23-4) W TKO 7 David Torres 21-2). In a clash of two boxers, both shaking off over one year of rust, Mexican Ray Beltran first held off the aggressive local David Torres and then hurt him in the sixth and floored and halted him in the seventh.
 
January 9
Magdeburg, Germany: Robert Stieglitz (3702(W TKO 5 Ruben Acosta (23-4-5).Heavy: Denis Boystov (27-0) W KO 2 Kevin Montiy (17-7-1,1ND). Super Middle: Khoren Gevor W PTS 10 Jefferson Goncalo (19-8-3). Heavy: Manuel Charr (14-0) W TKO 10 Owen Beck (29-4). Light: Mateusz Masternak (17-0) W KO 2 Tino Froehlich( 6-8-1). Heavy: Zack Page (20-27-2) W PTS 6 Sebastian Koeber (19-1).
 
Russian WBO champion makes successful first defence as he floors Argentinian late sub Acosta in third and again in fifth then forces stoppage. Boystov, 23, has no problem with Montiy, scoring three knockdowns and now has 22 by KO/TKO. Gevor, a 30-year-old Armenian southpaw, who has had two shots at world titles, takes unanimous verdict over 33-year-old Brazilian on scores of 99-91,98-94 and a close 96-94. Brazilian always losing but made Gevor fight.
 
Syrian Charr marches on with impressive last round stoppage of Jamaican veteran. Beck starts well but fades in late rounds and is allowed to take too much punishment. Pole prospect Masrternak has easy night against modest German. Huge upset as previously unbeaten prospect Koeber loses majority verdict to trial horse Page on scores of 59-56, 58-56 and 57-57. Koeber cut but is going backward as a fighter.
 
Ajaccio, France: Super Feather: Sofiane Takoucht (19-1) W PTS 6 Mike Carrero (9-7-2). Southpaw former amateur star Takoucht goes over old ground as he decisions Nicaraguan in repeat of December result.
 
Ciudad Nezahualcovotl, Mexico. Light: Carlos Urias (43-23) W KO 1 Alejandro Barrera (19-3). Very late sub Urias floors favoured local boy Barrera twice and kayos him in 92 seconds to win vacant WBC Fecarbox title.
 
January 11
Tokyo, Japan: Super Feather: Takashi Uchiyama( 14-0) W TKO 12 Juan Carlos Salgado(21-1-1). Super Bantam: Poonsawat (40-1) W PTS 12 Satoshi Hosono (16-1).
 
Upset as 30-year-old OPBF champ Uchiyama takes WBA title. He dominates with his jab and leads all the way. Floors Mexican Salgado with heavy right in last round and follow-up attack ends the fight. Uchiyama well ahead on all cards. Salgado first defence after winning title in shock stoppage of Jorge Linares in October.
 
Poonsawat retains WBA secondary title on majority verdict. In toe-to-toe scrap Thai’s hooks and uppercuts give him the edge on scores of 117-113, 115-113 and 114-114. First defence for Poonsawat since kayoing Bernard Dunne for title in September. Hosono, OPBF feather champ got the shot despite never previously fighting at this weight.
 
Sydney, Australia: Middle: Anthony Mundine (38-3) W PTS 12 Robert Medley (27-3).. Super Middle: Garth Wood (7-1) W PTS 7 Kariz Kariuki (21-8-2). Super Middle: Nader Hamdan (42-17-1) T DRAW 1 Junior Talipeau (14-1-1). Middle; Peter Mitrevski Jr (22-6-1) W PTS 6 Jakkirt Suwunnalirt (15-4-1).
 
Mundine dodges IBO ordered rematch with Daniel Geale and instead wins WBA International title with unanimous verdict over Medley. Wood wins Australian “Contender” . Badly cut he outhustles veteran Kenyan. Wins spilt decision, $25,000 and , although a novice, a shot at Mundine. Intriguing clash ends early as 35-year-old Hamdan floored and cut in clash of heads. Mitrevski wins every round against Thai who is 0-10-1 in his last eleven fights in Australia.
