Bedford Bear Caged

Matt 'The Bedford Bear' Skelton will spend Christmas behind bars after he was jailed for five months today.  He was convicted of attempting to pervert the course of justice to avoid speeding fines.

It is not known if Skelton asked for offences against the boxing public in his fights against Danny Williams and Michael Sprott to be taken into account.

The former English, British, Commonwealth and European champion obviously irritated the judge at Cambridge Crown Court who said he had been "arrogant" and believed that he was "above the law".

Skelton, 43, (on the right of the picture in his last fight against Sprott) initially denied any wrong doing but later admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice three times between November 2006 and August 2008.

His Porsche, personalised number plate and all, was registered as speeding on three occasions. Each time Skelton falsely named "car valet Brian Williams" as the driver. He was arrested after police failed to locate any such Brian Williams.
