Audley Harrison looking for opponent as Sosnowski challenges Vitali Klitschko
Audley Harrison is looking for a new dance partner for his April 9th European heavyweight title match in London after proposed opponent Albert Sosnowski will take a 'life changing' opportunity and challenge Vitali Klitschko for the WBC belt instead.
Klitschko was going to box David Haye victim and former WBA champ Nikolai Valuev but that fell through. Discussions between Team Klitschko's Bernd Boente and European champion Sosnowski's representatives have been ongoing for a couple of weeks and have finally come to fruition.
It's not all bad news for Audley though. Sosnowski's European title will be declared vacant and promoters Matchroom are in the process of finding Big Aud a new opponent for the vacant strap - same date, same venue (Alexandra Palace).
"Next in line is Alexander Dimitrenko," Matchroom's Director of Boxing John Wischhusen told BoxRec News. "We asked him last night and are waiting for a reply later today. If he says no, we're just going to go down the list (of rankings) until somebody says yes."
And what of British licence holder Sosnowski, who is managed by Matchroom boss Barry Hearn?
"This is a life changing opportunity for Albert and he's boxing for a lot of money. Bookmakers will make him a rank outsider - and he is a rank outsider. But I've been in this business long enough to know that stranger things have happened.
"He is genuinely excited by this opportunity and they think (Sosnowski's team) that they are going to cause a surprise."
