Amir Khan - 'Hatton fight makes sense'

WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan hasn't ruled out what would be a British mega-fight against the division's former boss, Ricky Hatton.

In an interview with BBC Radio Manchester, the Bolton man said that a fight against his local rival would make "business sense".

Hatton looks retired but has explicitly refused to call time on his career and even renewed his fighter's licence recently, as reported by BoxRec News.

"I'm not sure if Ricky has retired but if the fight did happen it would be huge," the 23-year-old Khan said.

Knowing the fight is very much a long shot, the speed merchant is obviously looking elsewhere though.

"I'm looking at Juan Manuel Marquez, Marcos Maidana or Victor Ortiz in December," he added.

"I always promised the fans that I'm going to bring big fights to England and that's what I'm hoping for.

"Zab (Judah)'s a great fighter, he's tough and has a good style. The fight he fought recently wasn't his best but he won convincingly," said Khan.

"That could definitely be a fight in the future for me."

One thing is for certain - in what is probably boxing's most competitive weight class, a champ can't keep taking on challengers without a dig. That is what makes Khan's next choice of opponent very interesting.
