Win or bust for Alex Arthur on Saturday

Former WBO super-featherweight champ Alex Arthur knows that his dream of winning world titles in three different divisions will be over if he fails to defeat County Durham's Nigel Wright when the two fighters meet on the undercard of Amir Khan's WBA light-welterweight title defence against Dmitriy Salina at Newcastle's Metro Arena on Saturday.

Edinburgh-based Arthur moved up to lightweight after surrendering his title to Nicky Cook in Manchester last year but has temporarily joined the light-welterweight ranks for the tussle with Wright, a boxer he has known since his amateur days and with whom he has maintained a long friendship.

As Arthur has said however, "He won't be my pal when we're in the ring on Saturday," as he knows that anything other than victory will scupper his chances of ever again challenging for world titles in any weight division. Arthur has made it clear that his medium term focus is on success at lightweight and he is confident that he'll be back fighting within the 9st 9lbs limit in 2010.

Another Scot featuring on Saturday's undercard will be Greenock's John Simpson who will be defending his Commonwealth featherweight title against Manchester's Stephen Bell while negotiations are taking place to provide Ricky Burns of Coatbridge with a warm-up contest as he prepares for a possible world title challenge in the New Year against current WBO super-featherweight champion Roman Martinez.
