Danny Butler splits with Hattons over Barker fight

Bristol middleweight Danny Butler has parted company with Hatton Promotions just weeks after signing a year long promotional deal.

The cause of the split was originally thought to be a disagreement over Butler taking a very short notice and eventually unsuccessful tilt at classy Darren Barker.

Butler stepped in to the breach at a couple of days notice to save the ITV4 Brentwood bill when Wayne Elcock pulled out of the British and Commonwealth title match.  The fight, which was on the 28th November, came only a fortnight after Butler had narrowly lost a tough ten-rounder against Darren McDermott.  Butler was outclassed by Barker and stopped in the seventh round.  Butler earned a reported career-high £12,000 for the Barker fight.

It was reported by Butler's local paper that he took the fight against the wishes of Hatton Promotions and they had terminated his contract.  However, Terry Dooley has got to the bottom of things which can be read here:

"In no way did we terminate Danny Butler's contract," said Gareth Williams of Hatton Promotions.

"It was terminated by Tex Woodward (Butler's manager) who told me that we'd said if they wanted to walk away they could do...we weren't consulted about the Barker fight."
