Britain’s busiest promoters stage a bumper programme of action this weekend.
First Team Promotions have an eight-fight show at the Tower Ballrooms in Edgbaston, Birmingham on Friday, November 27 and the following day, there’s another bill at The Venue in Dudley.
Four of the stable’s unbeaten boxers are boxing in Birmingham – including red-hot middleweight prospect Nasser Al-Harbi and Rob Hunt.
Al-Harbi’s smooth skills have taken him to eight straight wins as a professional and former WBC super-middleweight champion Richie Woodhall reckons the talented 20 year-old can go on to conquer the world.
Hunt is a popular puncher and his fans are set to travel from Stafford to see if the promising light-welterweight can extend his unbeaten record to 14 fights.
The bill also features the latest chapter in Ben Wilkes’ remarkable story.
Eighteen months ago, Wilkes walked into the First Team gym to shed a few pounds and after losing six stones, he is now regarded as a good middleweight prospect having chalked up four straight wins.
Birmingham lightweight Chris Truman has put together back-to-back wins as a professional after a good amateur career and heavyweight Neil Perkins is also on the bill.
Jamie Ball takes top billing the following night in Dudley as he continues on the fast track to the top.
Ball has chalked up eight straight wins in just 16 months as a professional and was runner up in the Midlands Area Council’s Best Prospect category at their annual awards night.
There’s a cracking local derby at The Venue that pits Rob Doody, an unbeaten former top-class amateur from Tipton, against home-town boxer Martin Gordon.
Doody has won all three professional fights, while Gordon goes into the light-welterweight punch up in confident mood after recording back-to-back wins.
Richie Ghent will be looking for a repeat performance. He sold a lot of tickets for his last appearance at The Venue in October and sent his supporters home happy with a stylish win over Daniel Thorpe that made it four straight wins for the former amateur star.
Middleweight hope Alex Strutt looks to extend his unbeaten record on the bill and the show will also feature the professional debuts of exciting featherweight prospect Dean Anderson and of Spencer Evans.
Anderson won national honours with Priory Park ABC and Evans will be looking to follow in the footsteps of elder brother Scott, the British Masters welterweight champion.
