November 18

Monterrey, Mexico: Welter: Norberto Gonzalez (18-1) W PTS 12 Manuel Garcia (11-4-2). Former amateur star Gonzalez bounces back from February loss to Antwone Smith and wins vacant Mexican title in front of his home crowd.

November 19

Medellin, Colombia: Super Feather: Likar Ramos (21-2) W PTS 12 Angel Granados (18-8). Welter: Charlie Navarro (18-3) W TKO 2 Emilio Julio (17-5-1). Ramos wins vacant interim WBA title. Ex-Olympian and Pan American champion Ramos injures right hand in fifth, but floors 35-year-old Venezuelan twice on the way to a wide, unanimous verdict. Navarro gets some measure of revenge for Venezuela flooring and halting Julio.

Rochester, USA: Middle: Edwin Rodriguez (13-0) W TKO 5 Brian Norman (17-10). Dominican-born “La Bomba”, a former US and National Golden Gloves champion, and a loser to James Degale in 2006, makes it 13 by KO/TKO as he floors Norman in third and forces referee to stop it in fifth.

Stafford, USA: Light Heavy: Alfonso Lopez (18-0) W KO 2 Tiwon Taylor (26-18-1). Lopez, from Cut and Shoot goes to 15 inside the distance but meaningless as all very poor opposition.

Paris, France: Light Heavy: Thierry Karl (24-2) W TKO 8 Karim Bennama (18-14-2). Light Heavy: Djamel Selini (21-8-1) W PTS 8 Tarek Kaidouri (12-11-1). Karl and Selini qualify for final of French national tournament. Karl halts Bennama with big right cross. Blain returns for first time since injury loss to Lamont Peterson for interim WBO title, and outpoints modest Brazilian. Former WBA title challenger Arnould hurts Paraguayan veteran in fourth and stops him in fifth. Chioui makes it twelve in a row by KO/TKO, but no real opposition.

November 20

Johannesburg, South Africa: Fly: Moruti Mthalane (25-2) W PTS 12 Julio Cesar Miranda (30-5-1). Super Bantam: Jeff Mathebula (23-2-2) W KO 4 Rashid Ally (13-13-8). Fly: Zolani Tete W KO 1 Anthony Mathias (24-14-2). Bantam: Klaas Mboyane (12-6-2) W PTS 12 Cletus Mbhete (9-2-2). Super Middle: Tineyi Maridzo (4-6) W KO 1 Mike Schultz (14-1-2). “Babyface” wins vacant IBF title. Stopped on cuts in challenge to Nonito Donaire last November, Mthalane makes no mistake this time. Mexican starts fast, and rocks Mthalane a couple of times, but South African takes control with his jab and boxes his way to clear victory. Scores 118-111 and 117-111, twice. Mathebula returns after disputed split decision loss to Celestino Caballero for WBA/ IBF titles and halts Tanzanian. Former undefeated WBF champion Tete wins vacant WBO African interim title with first round kayo of another Tanzanian. In all-southpaw battle, Mboyane makes first defence of South African title with win over former victim Mbhete. Zimbabwean Maridizo fails to read script and kayos unbeaten home town guy Schultz in 86 seconds for vacant WBO African interim title.

Kissimmee, USA: Super Bantam: Wilfredo Vazquez (17-0-1) W TKO 7 Genaro Garcia (36-8). Twenty-five-year-old son of Puerto Rican legend wins WBO Latino title as he scores two knockdowns in seventh over Mexican veteran. “Poblanito” has lost four of his last five, but three of those were world title shots.

Cherkasy, Ukraine: Middle: Avtandil Khurtsidze (20-1-2) W TKO 8 Kuvanych Toygonbayev (30-6). Welter: Yuriy Nuzhnenko (30-1-1) W PTS 10 Vyacheslav Yakovenko (7-8-1). Georgian-born Khurtsidze wins WBA European title in controversial circumstances as 33-year-old Uzbek is stopped on a cut caused by clash of heads which should have sent bout to score cards. Former WBA secondary champion Nuzhnenko cut badly but wins by 10, 10 and 9 points over durable Russian...

Philadelphia, USA: Super Bantam: Teon Kennedy (14-0) W TKO 10 Francisco Rodriguez (14-3). Yet another tragedy. Former National Golden Gloves champion Kennedy wins vacant USBA title. He almost gets Rodriguez out in first round with referee saving Chicago-based Mexican by wrongly applying an eight count. Tough battle from there until Kennedy forces stoppage in last round. Rodriguez collapses in ring and is rushed to hospital. He never regained consciousness and died on Sunday night.

Longchamps, Argentina: Cruiser: Mauro Ordiales (23-6) W KO 1 Adolfo Salazar (218-2). Ordiales makes it 22 by KO/TKO and wins vacant World Boxing Commission (Yes another sanctioning body) title. Only two of Mauro’s 29 bouts have gone the distance. Salazar worse than his record might make you think.

St Paul, USA: Welter: Mohamed Kayongo (15-2-1) W TKO 3 James Todd (2-2-1). Ugandan Commonwealth Games silver medallist Kayongo floors Welshman Todd with right in second and halts him in third.

Cancun, Mexico: Fly: Wilbert Uicab (27-5-1) W PTS 12 Job Solano (10-13-1). Bantam: Cristian Mijares (37-6-2) W KO 3 Jesus Vidal (8-6-1). Super Feather: Rudy Lopez (22-4-1, 1ND) W PTS 8 Jon Ramos. Uicab’s constant pressure too much for passive Solano and Wilbert retains NABF title for fourth time. Former WBC and WBA super fly champion Mijares puts Vidal down in second and finishes him with body shot in third. Former WBC feather champion Lopez wins every round against novice Ramos.

November 21

Oakland, USA: Super Middle: Andre Ward (21-0) W T DEC 11 Mikkel Kessler (42-2). Olympic gold medallist Ward wins WBA title and Super Six bout as Kessler badly cut on right eyelid by head clash in eighth and not allowed to continue in eleventh. Ward dominated all the way with his great jab, speed and accuracy and confuses Dane with switch-hitting. However, cuts caused by head clashes, and also lots of holding from former Olympic gold medallist. The bout was in his hometown and the referee was from California, but scores of 98-92 twice and 97-93 show Ward’s dominant and did not need any local help.

Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico: Light Fly: Rodel Mayol (26-4-1) W TKO 2 Edgar Sosa (37-6). Light: Daniel Estrada W TKO 5 Ric Arrieta (11-4-2). Light Ramon Ayala (15-1) W KO 4 Giovanni Diaz (11-3). Big upset as Filipino halts Sosa to lift WBC title. You can bet there will be a return. Mayol had a good first round scoring with some heavy hooks. Then in the second there is a clash of heads and Sosa goes down badly hurt. Referee sends Mayol to a neutral corner and helps Sosa to his corner. Sosa has a bad gash on his cheek and blood from his mouth the Doctor signals the fight can continue. The referee takes a point from Mayol for a butt. Mayol goes after Sosa who tries to fight back but he is floored by a heavy punch. He beats the count but Mayol batters away until the referee stops the fight. From the replay Mayol led with his head and continued through turning his head into Sosa as it landed. Having said that, for the short time the fight lasted Mayol looked the sharper and faster. Mayol wins a title at fifth attempt (head clashes caused technical draw and loss to Ivan Calderon in IBF title challenges already this year). Sosa loses title in eleventh defence and sees 25 bout winning streak snapped. He suffered a fractured cheek bone in the head clash. Ayala climbs off floor in second and kayos Diaz in third. Diaz taken to hospital where he undergoes emergency surgery. Said to be in a critical but stable condition under an induced coma.

Kiel, Germany: Cruiser: Zsolt Erdei (31-0) W PTS 12 Giacobbe Fragomeni (26-2-1). Super Feather: Vitali Tajbert (19-1) W PTS 12 Humberto Gutierrez (26-2-1). Super Middle: Dimitri Sartison (26-1) W TKO 5 Stjepan Bozic (23-4). Super Middle: Gennady Golovkin (18-0) W KO 2 Mikhail Makarov (10-1). Former undefeated WBO light heavy champion Erdei starts fast and builds early lead with speedy and accurate jab and good combinations. Fragomeni gets back into it at close quarters with heavy hooks and has an exhausted Erdei reeling at the end. Majority decision to Erdei who lifts WBC title. Scores 115-113 twice and 114-114, but could have gone either way this one and Fragomeni ( his only other defeat was by David Haye) deserves a return. Tajbert under pressure early from champion Gutierrez but from sixth takes control with his better boxing and wins interim WBC title with scores of 116-112 twice and 116-113. Russian-born Sartison wins vacant WBA secondary title as Croat Bozic stopped in fifth unable to see out of left eye. Sartison has a 2006 win over Andy Halder. Hot prospect Golovkin floors late sub Makarov three times for stoppage.

Sunchales, Argentina: Light Welter: Marcos Maidana (27-1) W KO 3 William Gonzalez (22-6-1). Light: Daniel Dorrego W KO 1 Daniel Brizuela (17-1-1, 1ND). Light Oscar Pereyra (19-1) W PTS 6 Marcelo Lazarte (9-14-1, 1ND). Maidana retains WBA interim title in first defence as he softens up mediocre Panamanian challenger in second and then finishes him in third. Now 26 by KO/TKO for Maidana. Amir Khan is full WBA champion. Minor upset as Dorrego kayos previously unbeaten Brizuela in first. Pereyra, who holds a win over Dorrego, wins every round in easy match.

Merida, Mexico: Light Fly: Giovanni Segura (22-1-1) W KO 1 Sonny Boy Jaro (30-8-5). Feather: Ramon Maas (18-0) W KO 1 Flavio Hernandez. In first defence of WBA title Segura takes just 65 seconds to put Filipino out of action with a body shot. Jaro had trouble making the weight. Nineteen by KO/TKO for Segura. Southpaw “La Cobra” Maas also finishes his bout with body punch.

Rama, Canada: Super Fly: Marvin Sonsona (14-0-1) Alejandro Hernandez (22-7-2) Super Feather: Steve Molitor (31-1) W PTS 8 Jose Seaz (17-9-4). Heavy Greg Kielsa (11-0) W PTS 6 Jason Bergman (9-9-2). Filipino Sonsona, just 19, loses WBO title as he fails to make the weight. Weigh-in in Ontario is on the day of the fight. Southpaw Sonsona, starts well and tries to keep it on the outside, but Mexican “ Little Clown” Hernandez, a former WBO flyweight challenger, gets into the fight as Sonsona weakens and deserves draw. Scores 115-113, 113-115 and 114-114. Title now vacant. Former IBF super bantam champion Molitor, up at super feather, has to climb off the floor in the fifth but wins clear decision over Argentinian. Pole Kielsa, who is Canadian champion, wins wide unanimous decision. Molitor won the Commonwealth title by beating Nicky Booth in 2002 and his IBF title by beating Michael Hunter in 2006.

Buenos Aires, Argentina: Light: Jorge Barrios (49-4-1) W TKO 5 Michael Lozada. Light Welter: Lucas Matthysse (25-0, 1ND) W KO 4 Florencio Castellano(16-4). Sebastian Lujan (32-5-2, 1ND) W PTS 6 Ignacio Fraga (9-5-2). Champion Lozada fails to make weight in WBO Intercontinental title defence and Barrios after slow starts floors Mexican in third breaks him down for kayo in fifth. In WBO Latino title fight Matthysse floors Colombian in second and finishes him with a body shot. 23 by KO/TKO for Matthysse. Former WBO welter and light middle title challenger Lujan, who beat Jose Luis Castillo in 2008, wins easily over six.

Nuevo Leon, Mexico: Light Fly: Juanito Rubillar (48-13-7) W PTS 10 Jose Lupe Martinez (20-4-1). Super Bantam: Arturo Reyes (5-0) W TKO 4 Narciso Lara. Veteran Filipino southpaw Rubillar floors Martinez in fourth and cuts him, but Martinez gets back in the fight and makes it close. Scores 96-93, 95-94 and 94-95. Rubillar, who has had four world title shots wins WBC Continental Americas title, which seems to relocate Philippines a long way! Reyes, a 2008 Olympian much too good for Lara.

Newcastle, Australia: Light Welter: Chad Bennett (24-3-2) W PTS 10 Aldo Ruiz (46-5, 1ND). Bennett, now 36, wins every round against experienced Argentinian who was stopped by Ricky Hatton in a WBU match in 2003.

Tunica, USA: Light Middle: Shawn Porter (11-0) W TKO 4 Jerome Ellis (12-10-2). “Showtime”, former National Golden Gloves champion and Olympic alternate forces retirement at end of fourth. Now nine by KO/TKO for Porter, but only one win in last eight for Bahamian.

November 22

Nagoya, Japan: Kohei Ohba (26-0-1) W TKO 9 Nobuto Ikehara (29-4). Twenty-five-year-old Oba retains Japanese title for fifth time. Not a puncher he uses speed to outscore former WBA challenger and floors and halts him in ninth.
